The Men of Steel put five past the Goans in the Super Cup game.

Aidy Boothroyd's Jamshedpur FC beat FC Goa (5-3) in their opening Group C game in Super Cup 2023. Jamshedpur conceded early but came back strongly scoring four successive goals. Rafael Crivellero scored two goals and provided an assist to Pratik Chaudhari.

FC Goa made a strong comeback in the second half scoring two quick goals but the last strike from Harry Sawyer sealed the match in favour of Jamshedpur FC. Aidy Boothroyd shared his views in the post-match press conference.

Thoughts on the match

The match was evenly poised until the last ten minutes (Jamshedpur 4-3 FC Goa). The late strike from Harry Sawyer gave Jamshedpur the hope of finishing the match and taking home all three points.

Aidy Boothroyd said, “Overall it was a good game in a neutral venue. We were delighted to score many goals against a very good team but we could have been wiser when we were leading (3-1). We allowed them to get back into the game but thankfully our players came back stronger in the closing stages and overall deserved a win.”

Rafael Crivellaro’s performance

Rafael Crivellero joined Jamshedpur FC in the initial stages of the ISL 9 season from Chennaiyin FC. He did not have an impressive season, scoring only one goal. Crivellero proved his worth in the opening match of the Super Cup scoring two goals and providing an assist.

Aidy Boothroyd has high regard for the creative midfielder and iterated, “He has provided a different dimension to our game since his arrival. He is a very talented player scoring goals through set pieces and open play. Rafael is a good guy and he shall play a key part in our progress further in the Super Cup.”

Plans up next

Aidy Boothroyd's Jamshedpur FC is set to take on ATK Mohun Bagan in the second game and the winner most likely shall progress to the semifinals.

Aidy Boothroyd is looking forward to the important clash and the English tactician quipped, “The next game is the toughest and the most important one as well (ATK Mohun Bagan) who have scored five goals in their opening encounter. We have to put in our best effort and this is what Super Cup is all about playing quality matches. Looking forward to playing them but we need some rest now.”
