Ratings: Crivellaro, Noah shine in Jamshedpur FC's Hero Super Cup triumph over FC Goa
The Men of Steel dismantled the Gaurs and extinguished their hopes of a fightback.
FC Goa crumbled to a resurgent Jamshedpur FC side in a 3-5 loss at the EMS Stadium in their Hero Super Cup 2023 opener on Monday. Carlos Pena's side took the lead through a sweet Noah Sadaoui strike before Pratik Chaudhari smashed in an equaliser from Rafael Crivellaro's ball. The Samba superstar then stepped up to the occasion with a brilliant free-kick that Arshdeep Singh couldn't keep out. An own goal from Fares Arnaout added more misery to FC Goa before the lemon break.
The break did not signal an end to their woes of conceding as Ritwik Das left Redeem Tlang scrambling on the ground before squaring it to the man of the match Crivellaro, who netted it calmly. FC Goa saw hopes of a turnaround as Guarrotxena thumped in a bullet header and Noah did the same sometime later. However, the Men of Steel's all-guns-blazing approach helped them bury all of FC Goa's hopes as Harry Sawyer bundled the line over the ball. Arshdeep Singh's hapless stance summarised FC Goa's night as they stumbled despite their commendable efforts. Jamshedpur FC walked away with all three points while the Goan outfit struggled to do so.
Here are Khel Now's player ratings for the game.
FC Goa (By Riddhiman Sarkar)
Arshdeep Singh - 5.5
Fortune favours the brave but not Arshdeep. It would seem as even the bravest of rush-outs on his part could not help him from conceding a flurry of goals.
Saviour Gama - 6
Probably the most solid defender amidst an appalling FC Goa backline with one interception, one clearance and three challenges (two ground and one aerial) won to his name.
Nikhil Prabhu - 6
Not at all commanding as a central part of the back-three. He was taken off at half-time for the experienced Hernan Santana.
Fares Arnaout - 5.5
Equally uninvolved like Prabhu. Also, Arnaout was unfortunate enough to net a ball into his own goal.
Iker Guarrotxena - 7.5
Playing on the flank helped him get into more spaces and that culminated in FC Goa’s second goal as he burst into the box and finished the move with a thumping header. Guarrotxena came off for compatriot Alvaro Vazquez in the 71st minute.
Lenny Rodrigues - 6
FC Goa looked to miss Glan's presence in Lenny's stand tonight as the latter failed to make his usual impact in a deep-lying destroyer role. The India international could not match up to the likes of the explosive Rafael Crivellaro and gritty Pronay Halder.
Edu Bedia - 6
The silky-skilled Spaniard failed to make an impression in the middle of the park once again as Jamshedpur FC’s shock attacks grabbed him by the throat. Taken off by Carlos Pena at half time as youngster Brison Fernandes was brought on for more attacking input.
Redeem Tlang - 6
Although he was a salient threat down the flanks, his defensive inefficiency cost FC Goa as he couldn’t stop Ritwik Das from teeing up Rafael Crivellaro. Went off for Aiban Dohling in the 71st minute in order to reinforce the leaky defence.
Brandon Fernandes - 7
Teed up Iker Guarrotxena for his header as he left it hanging with a brilliantly lobbed ball into the Jamshedpur FC box. Frustration visible in the latter stages as he knocked down Daniel Chima Chukwu from the back on one instance.
Noah Sadaoui - 8.5
FC Goa’s valiant knight who led the charge and helped them regain ground with two goals, one of which was a brilliant header. Posed a constant danger from the flanks as he was looking to either create chances or have a go on his own.
Devendra Murgaonkar - 6
Could not play in the False No.9 role that he was assigned and failed to produce the creativity asked of him. Subbed off at half time for Makan Chothe.
Substitutes
Hernan Santana - 6.5
Gave FC Goa the license to venture forward but still could not render the defence with a fool proof solution.
Makan Chothe - 6
Although he was told to inject some pace into the attack, Chothe was marked tightly by the likes of Ricky Lallawmawma and Eli Sabia who turned him toothless.
Aiban Dohling - 6
Was dribbled past once after he came on and could not really plug the FC Goa defence.
Brison Fernandes - 6
Dribbled out of tight spaces with ease but lacked the final product whether it was the final pass or progressing the ball up the pitch.
Alvaro Vazquez - 6.5
Denied of a brilliant goal by TP Rehnesh's catlike reflexes from almost point-blank range.
Jamshedpur FC (By M Sudharshan )
TP Rehenesh - 6
Rehenesh had an average game apart from his mistake of conceding the early goal.
Laldinliana Renthlei - 6
The right-back had a silent game and was caught up with an injury at the fag end of the first half. Could have put in more effort in controlling Noah Sadaoui who was winning the one-on-one battles with ease.
Eli Sabia - 6.5
The centre-back had a good game and involved himself in the offence as well. He dribbled past three defenders in the second half but couldn't hold onto the pace.
Pratik Chaudhari - 7
Scored Jamshedpur FC's equalizer from a corner provided by Crivellaro. He positioned himself perfectly to convert it. Pratik did not have a great time in the defense though, as he was losing crucial balls.
Ricky Lallawmawma - 6.5
Ricky couldn't control the pace of Chothe, allowing him to put in easy crosses from the right flank in the second half. Provided an assist to Harry Sawyer in the closing stages.
Pronay Halder - 6
Pronay Halder held up play in the midfield and was involved in many loose tackles. Also, he enjoyed a goal contribution when Fares Arnaout deflected his shot into his own net.
Jay Emmanuel-Thomas - 6.5
Jay Emmanuel-Thomas was one of the most active players for Jamshedpur FC, involving himself in both attack and defence.
Ritwik Das - 7
Ritwik had a quiet first half but came back stronger in the second providing an important assist to Rafael Crivellaro. He made use of errors committed by Redeem Tlang as he got past him with ease.
Boris Singh - 7
Boris Singh had a decent match and was electrying in the field. FC Goa defenders found it hard to catch up with his pace. He was substituted early in the second half.
Rafael Crivellaro - 9
Rafael Crivellaro had a three goal contributions, scoring twice along with an assist. His presence made a big impact for Jamshedpur FC, as he played to his merits by providing quality passes and manipulating the defence.
Daniel Chima Chukwu - 6
Chukwu had a silent game and wasn't involved in too many passes in the final third. Chukwu was waiting for the ball to be delivered which didn’t happen.
Substitutes
Len Doungel - 6.5
Len was brought on in the second half and played his part well by providing quality crosses to Sawyer.
Jitendra Singh - 6
Jitendra Singh was brought in the second half to strengthen the defence. Overall, he had a quiet game.
Harry Sawyer - 7
Scored Jamshedpur FC’s fifth goal and had a good impact in the limited time offered.
