Kerala Super League to be only state league to allow foreign players
The Kerala Super League is set to start in November 2023.
With the intention of taking Kerala football to the next level, the Kerala Super League was started under the leadership of Scoreline Sports and KSL. Football fans in Kerala have welcomed the Kerala Super League with open arms and it has given extra joy and excitement to the fans who have always been die-hard for the beautiful game.
However, after just two weeks, the AIFF took the decision to not allow foreign players in the state leagues. After knowing this, the organizers of the Kerala Super League have been constantly trying to get rid of this rule. Due to their continuous efforts, the league has been exempted from the same. This gives a huge relief to the organizers and the fans of Kerala.
Why such an exemption?
“Yes, they have been given an exemption because of the prior commercial deal they have signed to start the Kerala Super League. We don’t want them to rescind an agreement made earlier and we don’t want to jeopardize any commercial deal,” said Shaji Prabhakaran, the secretary general of the AIFF, to Sportstar.
Therefore, the Kerala Super League has now become the only state league in India where foreign players will be allowed to play. This will make the Kerala Super League one of the best state tournaments in India in its very first season. Thus, the Kerala Super League can attract a lot of Indian football fans towards them and at the same time, attract more sponsors. This will also make it a big financial hit.
“There is business in sport because if there is no sustainability, the sport will not move forward,” said Mathew Joseph, CEO of KSL and Scoreline Sports, to Sportstar.
Kerala Super League is set to be held in November 2023, featuring eight professional teams. The league will be held at four different venues – Kochi, Kozhikode, Manjeri, and Thiruvananthapuram. Along with helping Kerala football to grow, it will also give a new impetus to the Kerala Football Association to further improve football in the region.
