The Villans are bidding to finish in a European spot after a win over Fulham

Unai Emery has completely transformed Aston Villa. Aston Villa became the first Premier League team in history to score in the first of their 20 games under their new manager with their 1-0 victory over Fulham.

Tyrone Mings' first-half goal was adequate to give Aston Villa a 1-0 victory and put them in an advantageous spot in the battle for Europe ahead of Sunday's trip to Manchester United. Villa are currently in fifth place and have completed a further match than Tottenham.

Tyrone Mings' first-half header (21) secured Unai Emery's team's eighth victory in their previous 10 games following an outstanding first-half performance. Unai Emery's team is on a quest to make the cut for Europe after 12 years of absence and they displayed no sign of sluggishness against Fulham.

After playing a further match than Spurs, who are now without a manager, Villa are now a point ahead of the north Londoners, who will play fourth-placed Manchester United on Thursday night. While Fulham's two-game winning streak came to an end, they still maintain a point advantage over rival Brentford in ninth place.

Steven Gerrard's tenure as club manager came to an end after Villa's last match against Fulham, as a demoralising 3-0 loss at Craven Cottage served as the breaking point. However, under Emery, Villa Park's attitude is completely different as the Villans continue their quest to play in Europe for the inaugural time since the 2010–11 campaign.

Although Unai Emery acknowledges it will be difficult for his team to qualify for Europe, he believes it was imperative for Villa to win on Tuesday night.

"Yes, of course I am very happy because we lost two matches against Arsenal and Leicester and now after five matches we have won all our games at home and trying to be consistent each match by keeping clean sheets, controlling the game and being strong here with our supporters."
