If Bayern Munich fail to triumph in the Bundesliga this year, manager Thomas Tuchel may lose his managerial position.

After Julian Nagelsmann was fired as Bayern's manager in March, Thomas Tuchel, 49, was named in his place. However, during his brief tenure at the Allianz Arena thus far, he has struggled.

After beating his old club Borussia Dortmund in his first game in charge, Bayern lost the top place to Dortmund and were eliminated from the Champions League and German Cup.

On Saturday, Bayern suffered a resounding 3-1 loss against Mainz, and Dortmund overtook them at the top of the Bundesliga standings after defeating Frankfurt 4-0.

In light of the club's recent issues, reports in Germany indicate that the executive committee of Bayern will meet on May 22 to consider the fates of Tuchel, CEO Oliver Kahn, and sports director Hasan Salihamidzic.

Following the expensive loss to Mainz, Bayern Munich executives surged into the locker room in a manner evocative of Chelsea owner Todd Boehly.

Sadio Mane's strike gave Tuchel's team the lead, but they surrendered it within 15 minutes as they allowed three goals to be scored.

Following the match, Kahn said: ''We played a catastrophic second half. Who was the team here that wanted to become German champions? 'It will be very difficult to become champions with such an appearance."

''There are 11 men who are on the pitch and who have to work their a***s off for the goals of this club. What the team brought to the pitch is not enough to win the title.''

Asked if he would resign, Kahn responded: ''My only goal is to bring an end to the season with the league title – and then really attack again in the new season.''

On Sunday, Bayern will play Hertha Berlin in an effort to restart their championship defence.
