The Spanish top flight has been the home to some of the best goalkeepers in the world

The very last line of defence is the custodian. A slip-up from them might cost their side dearly, but maintaining a clean sheet ensures a win-win scenario. The best post protectors have historically been goalkeepers with the highest percentage of clean sheets.

A clean sheet, often known as a shutout, is a football word used when a team prevents the opposition from scoring during a game. A goalkeeper's clean sheet is said to have the same impact as any other player on the pitch scoring a goal. The Golden Glove Award is given annually by the LaLiga to the goalkeepers who have kept the most clean sheets.

Here are the top four goalkeepers with the most clean sheets in a single LaLiga season:

4. Claudio Bravo (23)

Bravo succeeded Victor Valdés as the club's first choice and became the second Chilean to ever play for Barcelona after Alexis Sánchez. After signing, he established a club record for the Spanish League by going 754 minutes without conceding a goal.

Bravo was selected for the LaLiga Team of the Year as the custodian. He was awarded the Zamora for the greatest goals-against percentage in the contest after giving up a total of 19 goals for an average of 0.51; this was just shy of Francisco Liao of Deportivo's all-time mark of 0.47 set in 1994.

3. Marc Andre ter Stegen (24)

The defence of Marc Andre ter Stegen is on pace to break multiple records. Even though there are still eight matches left, one of them is currently matched. That marks the club benchmark for the most clean sheets, which was previously held by Claudio Bravo in 2014–15, who finished 24 games without allowing a goal. The German goalkeeper has already accomplished that milestone in just 30 of the 38 matches the squad will play this season following today's 1-0 win over Atlético Madrid.

2. Jan Oblak: 24

Atletico Madrid
Jan Oblak kept 24 clean sheets in the 2015-16 season

With 24 clean sheets in the 2015-16 season, Oblak earned the Zamora Trophy for the fourth time in a row, which honours the league goalkeeper with the smallest "goals-to-game" ratio following 28 or more games.

Jan Oblak isn't the stereotypical modern custodian who must be instrumental in playing the ball away from the back, though. We'll let the Edersons and Neuers handle it. Jan Oblak, the war general in Diego Simeone, is the best when compared to simple shot-blocking.

With one of the strongest defences in the world, Atletico Madrid like to sit back and let the opponent play. They thus need a custodian who can command the area, come up to collect hazardous balls that are driven into the area, and make some outstanding saves.

1. Francisco Liaño: 26

Although he spent 15 years as a senior player for four teams, Deportivo was a key part of his playing days during the early 1990s as they rose to become Super Deportivo. He also received two Zamora Trophy honours.

Francisco Liao, a custodian for Deportivo La Coruna, set the previous mark in 1993–1994 with 26. Although Deportivo came in second place during that campaign, Liao's record has stood the test of time for the past three decades. The Deportivo custodian won the Zamora Trophy, given to the LaLiga custodian with the greatest 'goals-to-games' ratio, on two distinct occasions at the beginning of the 1990s.
