Manchester United receive two final bids as search for ownership continues
The Red Devils have received bids from Sir Jim Ratcliffe's Ineos Group and Qatari financier Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani
Sir Jim Ratcliffe's Ineos Group and Qatari financier Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani have reportedly presented their final offers for Manchester United. The two primary groups attempting to take over the club are these two.
The Glazer family, who control and own Manchester United, will now evaluate their situation after the most recent bid period expired at 22:00 BST on Friday. Both bidders are eager for the process, which started in November, to come to an end.
According to Sheikh Jassim's bid, which includes one sum that would go directly to the sellers, the price is about £5 billion. It also outlines a strategy for investing a sizeable sum in the club's infrastructure and capital.
It is known that the third offer date was limited to those interested in buying the club as a whole, not to investment companies like the US-based Elliott and Carlyle, each of which is only wanting to buy a small portion.
Finnish businessman Thomas Zilliacus claims he previously submitted proposals but would not make a new offer.
In November, the Glazer family stated that the board had "authorised a thorough evaluation of strategic alternatives," which included trading the team.
After handling the purchase of Premier League rivals Chelsea, investment bank The Raine Group was hired to manage the procedure.
The third deadline for bids fell on Friday, following a deadline for indications of intent in February and a second due the previous month.
All parties anticipate the matter will be handled before the transfer window opens at the conclusion of the season since it is recognised that a substantial amount of paperwork has to be finished to get to the most recent level.
Recently, there were additional rumours that Ineos may modify its first offer, which was for the combined 69% interest of the Glazer family, to permit co-chairmen Joel and Avram Glazer to keep their individual stakes.
It's been emphasised Ratcliffe has consistently maintained that he seeks controlling ownership, which gives the rumours credibility.
The "1958" fan club has opposed this action and requested a "Full Sale Only."
The group, which is planning a rally and march near Old Trafford's Premier League match against Aston Villa on Sunday, has also voiced concerns over Elliott and Carlyle's prospective engagement.
