These players made goalscoring look easy

The game of football revolves around goals, and spectators have been presented to some remarkable performances by outstanding goal scorers in the modern era. Even with players like Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo sniffing about, many of the goalscoring records established decades ago continue to hold strong today. The record for the footballers with the most goals in a single LaLiga match are listed below.

Lionel Messi:  4 vs Espanyol

In Barcelona's 4-0 LaLiga triumph over Espanyol on Saturday, Lionel Messi scored all four goals. With the win in Guardiola's final home game, 89,000 supporters hoisted "Thank you, Pep" banners and screamed his name.

With one game left, Messi moved five goals ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo, his closest rival, by scoring his 50th league goal of the year, bringing his total for the year across all competitions to an incredible 72.

Neymar: 4 vs Rayo Vallecano

The Brazilain scored 4 goals in a 5-2 win over Rayo Vallecano

Neymar was thrilled to score his first four goals for Barcelona on Saturday, featuring two penalties, but the Brazilian striker was not about to reveal the formula for his success.

As Barcelona rallied from a 1-0 deficit to defeat Rayo Vallecano 5-2 at the Camp Nou, it was one of the 23-year-best old's accomplishments since joining the club in 2013.

Radamel Falcao: 5 vs Deportivo La Coruna

In December 2012, Radamel Falcao put on one of his most devastating displays while wearing an Atletico Madrid jersey, scoring five goals in the team's 6-0 thrashing of Deportivo La Coruna. In LaLiga, Radamel Falcao was Atletico Madrid's hero as his team thrashed Deportivo La Coruna 6-1. He also became the just second player in league history to score five goals.

Cristiano Ronaldo: 5 vs Espanyol

Ronaldo scored five goals for the second time in his career to lead Madrid to a 6-0 victory against Espanyol in LaLiga. This brought his career total to 231 goals, surpassing Raul Gonzalez's record of 228 goals. Raul needed 550 games to accomplish the same milestone; he did it in 203. In the opening 20 minutes, Ronaldo scored three goals, snapping a two-match 'dry spell' to open the season.

Cristiano Ronaldo: 5 vs Granada

Real Madrid thrashed second-from-last Granada 9-1 to defeat them and pull within a point of LaLiga toppers Barcelona. Cristiano Ronaldo scored the fastest hat-trick of his career and added five goals for the first time in a single game. The crushing win was just what Real needed to get back on track after a stretch of three losses in a row in all competitions, including a 2-1 loss at Camp Nou on March 22. Wednesday night's LaLiga match between Real and their nearby rivals Rayo Vallecano is on the road.
