Top five youngsters who have impressed in Bundesliga 2022-23 so far

The competition has witnessed some worldclass emerging talents this season

For the past few decades, Bundesliga has very well been a competition, which has allowed youngsters to come and flaunt their talents and abilities to the entirety of Europe. Right from the big time players of the modern era like Lewandowski, Manuel Neuer, Mesut Ozil, to some of the all time greatest like Franz Beckenbauer and Oliver Kahn, Germany has always rendered itself as a top shelf talent producer.

Every year, some of Europe’s most brightest young lads, emerge from Deutschland’s biggest league Bundesliga, and this season being no different than other, we have already so far witnessed some pretty talented youngsters. 

Some of these players might be a regular feature on your Instagram feed, while others might have already been drifting towards that herd of players who are deemed as ‘underrated’. 

But fear not, because today we have compiled a list, of the five most impressive youngsters from the Bundesliga this season, who have at their tender age, already impressed the world of football, with their astounding performances in the league.

5. Florian Wirtz (Bayern Leverkusen)

For quite some time now, there has been an uproar for a certain Florian Wirtz, who is being considered by many as one of the many big talents, that have emerged from the small city of Leverkusen, Germany. 

The testimonial rise in Florian’s career, came in 2020, when he made his first team debut at the age of 17 years and 16 days, surpassing Havertz as Leverkusen’s youngest player ever. And if this wasn’t enough for the teenager, he went on to score his maiden Bundesliga goal just over two weeks later, becoming Bundesliga’s all time youngest scorer. A feat, which made it official that is there is yet another talent alert in the BayArena.

Wirtz has ever since been on the upward slope, and this season as well, the 19 year old is a adding up to his account, and despite having some injury issues, he isn’t stepping down of putting in some great performances. His role as a central attacking midfielder helps Die Werkself invariably, who rely on the young lad for much of their attacking operations. Wirtz also has a goal and four assists in 10 games this season in Bundesliga.

4. Youssoufa Moukoko (Borussia Dortmund)

Yousoufa Moukoko is already a household name in the world of football. The German wunderkid is famously the youngest ever player, to play in the UEFA Champions League, and is vehemently another feature, in the long list of worldclass talents that Dortmund have produced in the last few season.

Although, he is very well understood as a player with immense potential, Moukoko was unfortunately not a regular player for the first team, and was often on the bench, until the 2022-23 season, when Haller’s absence gave Moukoko the perfect opportunity to pounce on the occasion, and consolidate his place in the lineup, and so he did.

With his ruthless finishing, exquisite technique and a poacher’s instinct beyond his years, Moukoko has very well placed himself amongst one of Dortmund’s most vital players. His six goals and three assists in the league, also rules out any criticism from the stat lovers.

Most of you most famously remember him as the tall Croatian bloke wearing a strange face mask during the World Cup, or the player, who was a victim of Messi’s fiddling wrath in the Semi Finals of the World Cup. Whatever your memory recalls of Gvardiol, you should never question the youngster’s abilities on the pitch.

The RB Leipzig right back is rightfully being named by many as the best centre back in the world this season, and there’s plenty to back the statement. Gvardiol was Croatia’s prominent piece in their World Cup heroics this year, and was no less impressive at the club level, becoming one of Leipzig’s key players this season, featuring in 24 games in the league. 

What is most impressive about Gvardiol, is his confidence with the ball at his feet. Unlike traditional centre backs, Gvardiol has a certain kind of comfort with the ball, that is heavily useful for his team’s ball progression and attacking plays. Also, the 6 feet 1 inch defender possess great strength, which helps him in crucial duels.

2. Jude Bellingham (Borussia Dortmund)

Back in the summer of 2019, when Borussia Dortmund splashed an unfathomable £25 million, for a 17-year-old Jude Bellingham, the transfer was criticised by many, but Dortmund knew exactly knew what they were doing, and four years down the line, Bellingham has proved to be such an impressive investment by the club, that is duly paying its dividends, and has outsiders offering millions in order to acquire the player’s services.

Jude Bellingham is one of the top players in world football right now, and at the age of 19, he is already the star player of one of the biggest clubs in the world. Jude’s abilities go way beyond his young age, and the things that he does in the pitch often bring about amusement and awe to the onlookers. 

Jude’s four goals and four assists for Dortmund in Bundesliga depict just half of the 19-year-old’s big time contribution towards the Black and Yellow’s success so far this season. 

1. Jamal Musiala (Bayern Munich)

In such a proficient and star studded list, it would take a special kind of talent, to top the charts, and that is exactly what Jamal Musiala is, a ‘special talent’. Not enough can be said about the German, who at the age of 20, is already the most important player of a club like Bayern Munich, and is currently his team’s highest goal scorer as well as assist provider in the league. 

Musiala possesses elite dribbling and ball progression skills, and also has a strong eye for goal and heads into the second-half of the league campaign ranking as number one in scoring chances created per 90 minutes (2.25).

With his trickery and ball control reaching near perfection at times, the youngster has already depicted some insane moments, which were only previously seen at such a big stage by a certain Lionel Messi. Well while it would be a little controversial to already render Jamal as the next Messi or Ronaldo, one thing is for sure, that when talking about the successors of those two, Jamal stands on the very top half of that list.
