Maymol Rocky to be part of AFC Asian Cup's star-studded Final Draw ceremony

Maymol Rocky is currently the India U-20 head coach.

With the AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2023 just a few months away, Asian Football Confederation (AFC) today announced the star-studded line-up that will help AFC General Secretary Datuk Seri Windsor John conduct the draw on May 11.

The group of seven that boasts of big names like former Manchester United and Korea Republic star Park Ji-sung and Australian legend Tim Cahill also includes India's own Maymol Rocky.

Who is Maymol Rocky?

Maymol Rocky, hailing from Goa, debuted as an Indian women's national team player in 2000. After a career that spanned over a decade, she started coaching in 2012. In 2017, Maymol became the first female to coach the Indian women's senior national team.

Under her coaching, the national team went on to win the SAFF Women's Championship and the gold medal at the South Asian Games in 2019. She is currently the head coach of the Indian women's under-20 side.

AFC Asian Cup Draw on May 11

On May 11th, Maymol Rocky will be joined by Hassan Al Haydos, Server Djeparov, Yoshimi Yamashita and Sun Wen in addition to Park Ji-sung and Tim Cahill, as draw assistants at the AFC Asian Cup draw to be conducted at 4:30 PM (IST) in Doha's Katara Opera House.

India are in pot 4 with Tajikistan, Thailand, Hong Kong, Malaysia, China and Indonesia. The 24 teams will be drawn into six groups of four each. The Indian national men's team will hope for a favourable draw in the bid to do well in the competition. The much awaited 18th edition of the Asian Cup will be hosted by defending champions Qatar, between 12th January and 10th February, 2024.
