Odisha FC bid farewell to winger Nandhakumar Sekar
Nandha leaves behind a legacy in the Black and Purple
For a player so invested in a club that he went out of the way and gave his entirety for the crest - despite being marauded by injuries, personal issues and of course the constant questions asked over his dismal run of form over the previous seasons - speaks volumes of the commitment of the prolific number 11 of Odisha FC - Nandhakumar Sekar.
11 goals and three assists and 20+ contributions to goal in a single season is by far the best by any Indian player in Odisha FC colours. Nandha started in almost 95% of the occasions and barring a suspension, was a vital cog in the Odisha FC setup. Odisha FC went on record to term him as "One of our own" - a title reserved only for club legends and "represents a myriad of emotions and bonds that are everlasting".
Nandha wanted to leave, but stayed professional
Nandhakumar Sekar made his intentions clear to the management during the Hero Super Cup that even if he was more than happy with what was offered to him at Odisha, he wanted to explore newer challenges. And he promised the ownership that he will put in his best to bring the trophy back home, and boy did he stand true to his words! Four scintillating goals and numerous chances created, he was the standout performer amongst all Indian players in the Odisha FC camp that propelled the Juggernauts to their first ever silverware.
Odisha FC penned down an emotional note for the Salem boy saying, "It is difficult to say goodbye as the memories are endless. We are delighted that he could mark the end of his stay at Odisha FC with a trophy. A perfect way to sign off! Nandha, you will always be a Juggernaut and a Kalinga Warrior. Odisha FC shall always be your home. Thank you! Go well! 💜"
Nandhakumar Sekar will be joining East Bengal and the announcement by the club should be made in a few days.
