Desperation grips Goodison Park as Everton battles for survival and maintains their top-flight status

Matchday 38 has the possibility of two out of three teams facing relegation. One such team is Everton. The other two are - Leicester City and Leeds United. The Toffees are at it again. Last season, they were in the same situation and seemingly didn't learn enough from their mistakes. This time around, though, they have fate in their own hands. Yerry Mina’s late leveller against Wolves gave them a two-point advantage in the relegation battle.

A win at Goodison Park is everything Sean Dyche's men will go after. Because even a draw could see either of the Foxes or the Whites snap PL status. AFC Bournemouth, on the other hand, will travel with ease to the Walton area of Liverpool. As the game result won't affect their cause of staying in the Premier League.

The Cherries have even lost all of their last three fixtures. The 4-1 win against Leeds on April 30 was enough to provide them with a safety net of 39 points.

Kick-Off:

Sunday, 28 May 2023 at 4:30 PM BST (9 PM IST) at Goodison Park

Form

Everton (in all competitions): D-L-W-D-L

Bournemouth (in all competitions): L-L-L-W-W

Players to Watch

Alex Iwobi (Everton)

The Arsenal youth product could aid the Toffees charge to stay afloat in the Premier League. The 27-year-old attacking midfielder has just two goals from 37 appearances. But Everton striker Gray knows he can do other things with the ball too. Iwobi has provided nine assists in all competitions, with eight of those coming in the PL.

Dominic Solanke (Bournemouth)

The former Liverpool striker could come back to haunt Everton. Solanke has scored six goals and provided seven assists. The 25-year-old has made 32 Premier League appearances.

Match Facts

  • Everton have lost their last three home games in the Premier League.
  • The Cherries are in the running for a fourth straight consecutive defeat in PL.
  • A win will keep the Toffees in the Premier League and maintain their top-flight status since 1954.

Injury & Team News

Everton's Sean Dyche will be without star striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin, and that could lead to problems in netting goals. Players in the mix who are doubtful to start are Conor Coady, Tom Davies, Vitalii Mykolenko, and Ben Godfrey. The likes of Andros Townsend, Seamus Coleman, and Nathan Patterson shall remain injured.

The Cherries won't be too concerned with who is available or not, as long as they can field eleven players. Gary O'Neil's injury list includes Joe Rothwell, Marcus Tavernier, and Ryan Fredericks. Philip Billing and Hamed Traore will be fit enough for the bench.
