The tournament is being played in Hungary.

The European men's under-17 national teams of the UEFA member associations compete each year in the UEFA European Under-17 Championship, often known as the UEFA Under-17 Championship or U-17 Euros.

With nine titles won, Spain are the most succesful team in this tournament. The incumbent winners are France.

Format of the competition

Three phases make up the current competition structure: a qualifying round, an elite round, and a final event. The elite stage occurs in the spring, whereas the first stage is held in the autumn of the preceding year.

The host team competes in the final event in May together with the champions of each elite round group. Prior to the 1997 competition, competitors had to have been born on or after August 1, the year they became 17 years old.

Since the 1998 competition, 1 January has been the new date restriction. The tournament was rechristened the European Under-17 Tournament in 2001-2002, but the requirements for participation remained the same.
