The Rivalry della Madonnina, sometimes referred to as the Rivalry di Milano (Milan Derby in English), is a football rivalry game between Inter Milan and A.C. Milan, two illustrious Milanese clubs. It is known as Derby della Madonnina in memory of one of Milan's most famous landmarks, the Virgin Mary statue atop the Duomo, also known as the Madonnina ("Little Madonna" in Italian).

Inter supporters enjoyed the "luxury" of riding motorcycles (motoretta, another nickname for the Nerazzurri) to the San Siro stadium due to the club's more affluent lineage. The Rossoneri, on the other hand, were also referred to as tramvee or tranvee (i.e., they could only get to the stadium using public transportation). Today, the socioeconomic gap has largely diminished, and membership in either club is decided by personal or familial factors.

The two footballing giants of Milan are thought to have met over 300 times, including "unofficial" matches, but just four of those encounters took place in the Champions League.

Both teams, whose names are synonymous with Europe's top club championship, will strive to duplicate their previous successes in 2023.

The Nerazzurri had not triumphed in the competition since they did so in 1965 under Helenio Herrera's catenaccio-inspired gaze, and the special one ended their 45-year winless streak.

Even while the present incarnations of neither Milan club are as "grande" or tactically innovative as Arrigo Sacchi's Rossoneri, they are nonetheless gritty and distinctly Italian. When the two adversaries in the Derby della Madonnina encounter across two legs, it's sure to be a show in one of football's great amphitheatres.
