Six-times champions Argentina are hosting the tournament

Six-times champions Argentina will host the FIFA U20 World Cup 2023, where 24 teams will be battling it out for the ultimate prize in the age-group showpiece between 20 May and 11 June. Argentina, who failed to qualify for the football tournament, has stepped in to host the tournament after Indonesia was stripped of the rights. The country also hosted the competition in 2001.

The tournament is considered the breeding ground of future stars, with the legends of the game, such as Diego Maradona, Lionel Messi, Andrés Iniesta, Ronaldinho and Luis Figo featuring at previous editions. A new winner will be crowned in Argentina after defending champions Ukraine failed to reach the European qualifiers. The tournament will be held across four cities: La Plata, Mendoza, San Juan and Santiago del Estero. The showpiece will kick off with four matches on the opening day in San Juan and Santiago del Estero.

The 24 countries qualified for the 2023 FIFA U20 World Cup are Argentina (hosts), Uzbekistan, Guatemala, New Zealand, USA, Ecuador, Fiji, Slovakia, Senegal, Japan, Israel, Colombia, Italy, Brazil, Nigeria, Dominican Republic, Uruguay, Iraq, England, Tunisia, France, The Republic of Korea, The Gambia, and Honduras. The top two teams from each of the six groups will advance to the last 16, as well as the four best third-placed teams.
