The English top flight is one of the toughest football leagues in the world

Premier League is one of the toughest leagues when it comes to the intensity and tempo of the game. Teams always try to take the most out of the opportunity in the rival's final third if not a goal.  Penalties conceding and giving away are two very different feelings for a team and when a player wins a penalty it’s no better than the assist when executed properly.

Winning a penalty is as important as scoring it because you beat the defenders with your skill and pace or lure him to foul on you to make the match official award you the advantage. Lets take look at the top five Premier League players with most penalties won in history of the compeition:

5. Andrew Johnson – 14

Clubs Played for (Crystal Palace, Everton, Fulham, QPR)

The former England international has featured across 04 teams in the Premier League where he went on to make 187 appearances in total. He also has contributed with 51 goals and 17 assists which is a decent stat for a player who had spent a whole decade in the Premier League.

Along with this impressive stat, he was always creating chances for his team in the opposition box and this resulted in him getting fouled and winning important penalties for his team. He is a surprise name on the list for winning the most penalties but with this stat on the other hand one can know his importance and abilities in his playing days for the respective teams.

4. Alan Shearer – 15

Clubs Played for (Blackburn Rovers & Newcastle United)

The Premier League's all-time top scorer with 260 goals, Alan Shearer has converted the most penalties in the competition's history. No one has come close to Shearer's 56 goals from the spot, and his no-nonsense approach to spot-kicks served him well over the years.

His inclusion on almost every list of the Premier League involving a striker only shows the legacy he has left behind. In his 17 years long career, Shearer is still a mountain that players look up to. Ever present and a threat to a defense he was a one-man show for his team a lot of the time and was the x-factor between a draw and three points.

3. Wilfried Zaha – 19

Clubs Played for (Manchester United, Crystal Palce)

Wilfried Zaha
Wilfried Zaha is one of Crtstal Palace best players of all time

Wilfried Zaha won the 19th penalty of his Premier League career at Selhurst Park. Zaha turned quickly and was brought down by the midfielder in the Palace. He has become a refined player year after year, since his arrival at Crystal Palace. He always had shown this during his academy years at Manchester United and his loan spell at Cardiff.

Across his 305 performances, he has managed to score 68 goals as a midfielder and winger and provided 29 assists. But what is impressive about him is that this stat tells you the story of how dangerous he is when approaching the opposition box. He is the most likely to be fouled among the rest of the players on the pitch most of the time. This is due to his dribbling and pace with the ball and rightly deserves his place here on the list and could go further seeing he’s just 30 years old. His 136 goals came from 44 assists.

2. Jamie Vardy – 23

Clubs Played for (Leicester City)

The notorious fox in the box has just caught up with Raheem Sterling in 3 years moving from 19 to 23 to share the iconic record. He remains the main man for foxes even when he comes as a substitute when it comes to creating something out of almost impossible. He always is regarded as someone who works hard to achieve his status as a prolific attacker in the recent editions of the premier league. He has 136 goals to show for it and a Premier League medal with the Foxes.

He has always been a player who has a knack for goals and always creates trouble in the half of the opposition. His 03 goals representing in this season is the first time in seven years when he has failed to reach double goal tally (10+ goals), it just happened the same year when the Foxes are relegation threatened. His impact on the team reflects their current position and how Irreplaceable he has become.  Irrespective of the current scenario, there is no denying the fact he has given some all-time classic goals and shithousery moments to the football world along with that Football Fairytale season with Leicester.

1. Raheem Sterling – 23

Clubs Played for (Chelsea, Manchester City & Liverpool)

The Twenty-Eight-year-old forward, Raheem Sterling is at the top of this ranking and is unlikely to cause a shock given that there have been so many world-class forward and wingers in such a big league. His iconic running style and dribbling in the box have tempted defenders for 50-50 challenges a lot of times and he has been awarded a penalty 23 times.  His influence on the final quality of move depends a lot and his opposition knows that which is why he is marked and fouled the most number of times.
