Premier League’s all-time top 11 scorers: Shearer still leads the pack
The Premier League has been home to legendary players who have scored a record-breaking number of goals in their careers.
The Premier League has always been the sort of competition where the best of the best have played and emerged among the top scorers in the league. The cream of the crop has showcased their exceptional talents in the competition. The league is therefore watched by millions around the world and is hailed as the toughest league competition in the world.
With players like Wayne Rooney, Thierry Henry, Alan Shearer and many other sensational attackers having played in the English top flight, the list of the all-time leading goalscorers of the league makes for interesting reading.
11. Michael Owen – 150 (326)
Michael Owen is one of only 10 players who have scored 150 goals or more in the Premier League. Apart from Real Madrid in La Liga, Owen played in England for clubs like Liverpool, Newcastle United and Manchester United. He was also a Ballon d’Or winner in 2001 and twice won the Golden Boot award.
10. Mohamed Salah – 153 (251)
Mo Salah is the only player on the list who is actively playing in the Premier League. Salah joined Chelsea in 2013 and only made 13 league appearances for the Blues. He joined Liverpool and became a hero at the Merseyside club with 153 goals in just 251 games. The Egyptian King has a chance to app a few more goals before making an exit from Anfield. He can easily reach the top five in the standings.
9. Jermain Defoe – 162 (496)
Jermain Defoe has performed well for several clubs in England, most notably Tottenham Hotspur. He featured in the Premier League 496 times and scored 162 goals. The Englishman is currently playing for Rangers in the Scottish Premier League.
8. Robbie Fowler – 163 (379)
Liverpool’s great and current head coach of SC East Bengal in the Indian Super League, Robbie Fowler scored 162 goals in 379 league appearances. While the striker played most extensively for the Reds, he also featured for the likes of Manchester City, and Leeds United among other clubs.

7. Thierry Henry – 175 (258)
Arsenal’s legendary striker Thierry Henry scored 175 goals in 258 Premier League appearances. During his time in England, he was widely considered the best forward in the world and mesmerized fans with his immaculate technique and finishing. Henry won four Golden Boot awards in five seasons in the early 2000s.
6. Frank Lampard – 177 (611)
Chelsea’s former manager Frank Lampard is a legendary figure at the club. The Englishman is the only midfielder in the list of Premier League top scorers and was an efficient penalty-taker. One of the club’s leading appearance-makers, he featured for them 611 times in the league scoring 177 goals and registering 102 assists. He also featured for Manchester City briefly.

5. Sergio Aguero – 184 (275)
Sergio Aguero retired from football during the 2021-22 season. He only featured for Manchester City in the Premier League. He has scored 184 goals as of yet in 275 league appearances and unless he moves away, has a real chance of rising up the ranks. The Argentine has won the Golden Boot once during the 2014-15 season.
4. Andy Cole – 187 (415)
One of the few strikers to make more than 400 appearances in the Premier League, Andy Cole scored 187 goals in 415 caps. The Englishman retired as a player back in 2008. He featured extensively for Manchester United during his career but also represented teams like Blackburn Rovers, Leeds United, Manchester City and Newcastle United among other clubs.
3. Wayne Rooney – 208 (491)
One of Manchester United’s all-time greats and their highest goalscorer, Wayne Rooney is only the second player to have scored more than 200 goals in the competition. He featured briefly for Everton as well and is now the manager of Derby County. Rooney won 17 trophies at United in his 13 years at the club. Wayne Rooney remains one of the only two players to have registered more than 100 goals and assists in the history of the Premier League.
2. Harry Kane – 213 (317)
Harry Kane left Tottenham Hotspur at the end of the 2022-23 season. He went past Wayne Rooney’s record and became the second-highest scorer in the league’s history. Despite tasting a lot of individual success, the player was unable to win the league with Spurs. He decided to join Bayern Munich and has continued his rich run of form.
1. Alan Shearer – 260 (441)
The all-time leading goalscorer in the history of the Premier League is Alan Shearer. The Englishman’s record is probably secure for several more years unless Harry Kane surpasses it.
The striker is a legendary figure at both Newcastle United and Blackburn Rovers, two clubs he has represented extensively in the league. Shearer scored 260 goals in 441 appearances and also won the Golden Boot on three occasions.
