Netherlands forward Quincy Promes prosecuted for drug trafficking

Footballer suspected of smuggling 1,360kg of cocaine
Former Sevilla and Ajax forward Quincy Promes is being prosecuted in the Netherlands for smuggling 1,360kg of cocaine back in 2020. The drugs were supplied in two shipments to the Netherlands or Belgium; the prosecutors stated this in an email. The cocaine is said to be worth around £75 million.
His lawyer didn't give an immediate reply to a request for comment on the incident, and his office phone went unanswered after business hours on Tuesday.
According to a Dutch newspaper, Het Parool, Quincy Promes' lawyers will comment on the case during a pro forma hearing that is scheduled for Monday. The news agency ANP has stated that Promes is not expected to attend the hearing. He will be playing for Spartak Moscow in their final game of the season.
Quincy Promes is also facing charges of assault in his home country, the Netherlands. He was arrested in connection with a stabbing that took place in July 2020 in a town called Abcoude. Later it was confirmed that the alleged person was Promes' cousin and the incident took place in a fight after a family party. However, Promes has denied any involvement in the incident.
Quincy Promes is currently playing for Spartak Moscow. He is in excellent form for the Russian side. The 31-year-old has scored 24 goals and provided eight assists in 35 appearances. This is his second spell at the Russian club. Promes has also played for FC Twente, Sevilla, and Ajax.
Other than this, the Dutchman has made 50 international appearances and has scored seven goals. Due to his ongoing issues, he missed the 2022 World Cup. The trial on Monday will decide the future of the Dutchman.
