France names 23-man squad for upcoming Euro 2024 qualifiers
Nkunku and Dembele make a return to Deschamps' side
France coach Didier Deschamps has named a 23-man squad for the upcoming Euro 2024 qualifiers against Gibraltar and Greece. The 2022 World Cup runners-up are topping Group B with two wins in two games.
Deschamps has plenty of youngsters to choose from. The likes of Kylian Mbappe, Theo Hernandez, Dayot Upamecano, Eduardo Camavinga, Ousmane Dembele, and a few others have already made a name for themselves.
Players like Olivier Giroud and Antoine Griezmann add a bit of experience to the France squad. Hugo Lloris has retired from international football. This leaves a lot of opportunities on the shoulder of these two. Olivier Giroud is the most capped player in the squad. He has 122 international caps and is three ahead of Antoine Griezmann. Kylian Mbappe is probably the biggest member of the squad. The 24-year-old has 68 international caps and scored 38 goals.
Didier Deschamps has made a few changes to France's squad since their last international break. Moussa Diaby, Khephren Thuram-Ulie, Jean-Clair Todibo, and Jordan Veretout miss out on selection. Ferland Mendy, Wesley Fofana, Ousmane Dembele, and Christopher Nkunku make a return to the international stage. Wesley Fofana has yet to receive an international cap for France.
Christopher Nkunku has been unlucky after suffering a few injuries in the past. He missed the 2022 FIFA World Cup due to an injury. The 25-year-old has been one of the players in the Bundesliga. He will look to add his ninth international cap.
France will play their third Euro 2024 qualifier away at Gibraltar on June 17. They will then travel back home and face Greece at the Stade de France on June 19.
In the first Euro 2024 qualifier match against the Netherlands, France registered a big win. They won the match 4-0, with Kylian Mbappe scoring a brace. Their next match was against Ireland. Benjamin Pavard scored the only goal of the match to give France a 1-0 win.
Didier Deschamps side is yet to concede in the Euro 2024 qualifiers. They have scored five goals and are looking like the favourite to win Group B.
