Winning the Premier League title more than once is an incredible achievement for any football player. The likes of Manchester United, Chelsea, and Arsenal garnered the majority of the titles in the early years, while Manchester City have made a late surge up the charts.

However, the fact that Liverpool had to wait till 2020 to claim their first Premier League title reminds us that nothing can be taken for granted. There have also been the delightful charges to glory from Blackburn Rovers and Leicester City that remind everybody just how erratic the Premier League can be in the best possible way. In fact, there are actually a few players who have won the Premier League with two clubs, far fewer than you expect.

Here are those players who have won the Premier League with two different clubs:

11. Robert Huth (Chelsea & Leicester City)

Robert Huth is a three-time Premier League winner and has made the most Premier League appearances (322) by a German player. German defending giant Huth is among the players who have won the Premier League with two clubs, Chelsea and Leicester City.

During Chelsea’s back-to-back titles in 2004-05 and 2005-06, owing to stiff competition from John Terry, William Gallas, and Ricardo Carvalho, Huth made 26 combined appearances across the two seasons, thus receiving a winner’s medal for each.

After plying his trade for the next decade in the winter lands of Middlesbrough and Stoke City, he moved to Leicester City in 2014 and established himself as a core part of the defence that landed that shocking title. He made 35 appearances for the Foxes, meaning there were no question marks over his contribution this time around.

10. Mark Schwarzer (Chelsea & Leicester City)

The veteran Australian shot-stopper had just one trophy in his entire playing career as he entered his 40s and was 42 when he won his first Premier League trophy with Chelsea in the 2014-15 season. Not content with that, Schwarzer then followed that up with another Premier League title the very next season after joining Leicester City, becoming the first player in the Premier League era to win titles in consecutive seasons with two different clubs.

However, the most astonishing detail about Schwarzer’s success between 2014 and 2016 is the fact that he did not play a single game in either title-winning season. 

9. Henning Berg (Blackburn Rovers and Manchester United)

Henning Berg’s career lasted from 1988 to 2004, most notably in the Premier League, where he won titles with both Blackburn Rovers and Manchester United, becoming the first player to win the Premier League with two clubs. Berg’s second season at Rovers saw him land his first title, as they piped Manchester United to the 1994-95 title by a single point.

Henning Berg had long been coveted by United boss Ferguson, who eventually got his man in 1997, paying what was then a joint British transfer record for a defender: £5m. Berg was a regular for United until the arrival of Dutchman Jaap Stam, but he still landed two titles at United. So when asked ‘who has won the Premier League with two different clubs’, Berg was the first man to do it.

8. Nicolas Anelka (Arsenal & Chelsea)

Nicolas Anelka enjoyed a long, storied, and goal-laden career, having turned out for the likes of Real Madrid, PSG, Juventus, and Fenerbahce, among other big names. His English clubs make for similarly impressive reading—not many footballers can boast Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea, and Manchester City.

During his time in England, Anelka scored 126 goals and won the title with Arsenal and Chelsea. The Frenchman’s two title wins are separated by the longest gap of any player included in this list; his first came with the Gunners in 1998, while his second arrived 12 years later with Chelsea in 2010. 

7. Carlos Tevez (Manchester United & Manchester City)

A quick, tenacious, powerful, hard-working, and dynamic forward in his prime, Tevez is capable of playing as a striker, a winger, a supporting forward, or an attacking midfielder. With a respectable return of 14 goals in 34 matches in his first season, Tevez and Manchester United won the title and the Champions League.

They followed up with another title in 2008-09, but his relationship with the red side of Manchester became strained, and a permanent deal could not be agreed upon. The city erected a billboard reading ‘Welcome to Manchester’ and showing Tevez in the background. Tevez grabbed his third league winner’s medal in 2012.

6. Gael Clichy (Arsenal & Manchester City)

The French left-back was just 18 when he won the league with the Gunners, making 12 appearances on his way to becoming one of the youngest recipients of a Premier League winners’ medal in the league’s history. He then stepped into the role of first-choice left-back after Cole’s acrimonious departure to Chelsea in 2006, before himself ditching Arsenal for pastures new in 2011.

Having joined Roberto Mancini’s Manchester City in 2011, Clichy added another Premier League title to his trophy cabinet, playing 90 minutes in City’s famous 3-2 win over QPR that secured their first league title in 44 years. He added another Premier League win with the Cityzens in 2014 before moving on. 

5. N’Golo Kante (Leicester City & Chelsea)

Starting with Boulogne in 2012, he started his senior club career. He later shifted to Caen the next season, followed by Leicester City until 2016. He currently plays for Chelsea. The defensive midfielder was such a huge part of Leicester's league title that Chelsea was convinced to pay £32 million for his services in the summer of 2016, and, wouldn’t you know it, he repeated the trick the following season by leading Chelsea to the title, making himself a back-to-back champion for two separate clubs.

N'Golo Kante was an essential part of the midfield with which Leicester City went on to register their first-ever Premier League title. He played all 38 games representing Caen in Ligue 2 and finished up third in the league, finally making it into Ligue 1, in which he was instrumental.

4. Kolo Toure (Arsenal & Manchester City)

The Ivorian was a near-ever-present in Arsenal’s famed ‘Invincibles’ squad as the Gunners lifted the Premier League title at the end of the 2003-04 season. His second domestic crown came alongside fellow invincible Gael Clichy at Manchester City in 2012. In fact, if Liverpool had accrued just a couple more points in the 2013-14 season, Toure might have ended up with three winners’ medals from three different Premier League clubs.

After Liverpool’s near-miss two years later, Toure followed his Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers to Celtic, where he won the Scottish Premiership, before joining Rodgers’ backroom staff at Leicester City.

3. Ashley Cole (Arsenal & Chelsea)

Ashley Cole was a product of the Arsenal youth academy. Following a successful loan spell at Crystal Palace in 2000, Cole got his chance at Arsenal following an injury to Sylvinho. He seized the opportunity and never looked back. Cole’s first title came in the 2001-02 season, but it was Arsenal’s Invincibles campaign in 2003-04 when he would secure probably his most precious title.

After a lengthy transfer saga in the summer of 2006, Cole, who is among the players who have won the Premier League with two clubs, signed for Chelsea in a deal that saw William Gallas head in the opposite direction. He would go on to win every domestic trophy for the Blues, plus both European trophies, with his second career FA and Premier League double coming in 2009-10.

2.  Riyad Mahrez (Leicester City & Manchester City)

The Algerian’s performance in the 2015-16 season will go down in history as one of the best individual performances in Premier League history. The previously unheralded winger scored 17 goals in 37 appearances over the course of the season, winning the PFA Player of the Year award and finishing seventh in the Ballon d’Or nominations.

Two more seasons in the East Midlands followed before Mahrez sealed a move to Manchester City in 2018. He chipped in with seven goals for Per Guardiola’s men as they sealed yet another Premier League title on the final day of the 2018-19 season, justifying his switch to the Etihad. Now he has won one more Premier League title with City. He is surely a Manchester City legend.

As a versatile player, Milner has played in different positions, including on the wing, in midfield, and at fullback. The Yorkshireman enjoyed a hugely distinguished career at Leeds United, Aston Villa, and Newcastle United before his transfer to Manchester City, where he picked up his first Premier League title in 2011-12.

James Milner’s five seasons with Liverpool yielded four major trophies, including the Premier League, Champions League, FIFA Club World Cup, and UEFA Super Cup. He will join Brighton in the upcoming season.
