The Italian youngster impressed throughout the tournament
At the FIFA U20 World Cup 2023, Chelsea midfielder Cesare Casadei won both the Player of the Tournament (Golden Ball) and Golden Boot awards.
The 20-year-old Cesare Casadei led all scorers with seven goals as Italy fell to Uruguay 1-0 in the championship match. Italy eliminated South Korea, Columbia, and England en route to the championship.
Cesare Casadei signed a six-year contract at Stamford Bridge when he transferred from Inter Milan to the Blues last summer.
During the second half of the previous season, Casadei played 15 times while on loan at Reading, earning his senior football debut in a 2-1 loss against Blackburn.
Prior to netting in three straight knockout wins against England, Colombia, and South Korea on their path to the final, Casadei scored an additional pair of doubles in Italy's meetings against Brazil and the Dominican Republic during the group phase.
Even though Italy lost to Uruguay 1-0 in the tournament's last game, Casadei's goal-scoring brilliance was sufficient enough to win the Golden Boot award.
Because of how crucial his efforts were in Argentina, FIFA also determined that he had demonstrated in order to be identified as the player of the competition.
He now joins the list of athletes who have won the U20 World Cup Golden Ball, which also includes Paul Pogba, Lionel Messi, Sergio Aguero, and Diego Maradona.
The youngster will return to Chelsea and prepare for next season as the Blues will start the summer re-building phase under new manager Mauricio Pochettino.
