South American nations have dominated at this age level

The FIFA U20 World Cup 2023 culminated with Uruguay being crowned the champions of the tournament. This competition was started In 1977 and was earlier known as the FIFA World Youth Championship.

This competition takes place after every two years. The 2023 edition took place after four years due to a covid, which saw 24 teams take part in this tournament.

Argentina have won the most FIFA U20 World Cup titles in the competition's history. They have won six titles and the last title came in 2007.

Brazil are just behind them with five cups. They have the best record when it comes to reaching the finals. Brazil have played nine times in the U20 World Cup. Both these South American nations have shown domination at the U20 level.

Portugal and Serbia are tied for two titles each. Every other country on the list has only won one title.

South American nations have won 12 titles combined with only three teams winning the final. Eight European nations won the cup and their total is 10. Ghana is the only African country to win the FIFA U20 World Cup. Asian teams and CONCACAF teams have reached the finals but were unable to win the trophy.

Diego Maradona, Lionel Messi, Paul Pogba, and Sergio Aguero have won this competition. These four players also won the Golden Ball Award. Messi and Aguero won the Golden Boot award. This tournament provides a great platform for these players. Clubs can also scout these players and there are chances that the player might get a good deal.
