Ilkay Gundogan completes medical and signs two-year deal with Barcelona
The 32-year-old won five Premier League titles with Manchester City
Barcelona pursuit of Ilkay Gundogan has been fruitful as Manchester City's captain and treble-winner has joined Barcelona for free.
Prior to a Bosman move, the 32-year-old midfielder is believed to have inked an agreement with the Blaugrana.
When Barcelona failed to re-sign Lionel Messi, Gundogan soared to the forefront of their list of desired transfers.
Arsenal and teams in Saudi Arabia were also interested in him, and Manchester City, eager to rebuild their legend, presented the Catalans with fierce competition.
Nevertheless, Barcelona have finalised the agreement after laying the foundation for it over the course of several months.
According to the rumour, Gundogan has finished signing his contract with Spanish champions in Munich, where director Mateu Alemany travelled today to conclude the deal.
The German midfielder is thought to have signed a two-year contract with an additional year's option. In order to exercise the right to apply for the extension, he must participate in more than half of the games during his second season with the club.
According to reports, Gundogan's contract includes a €500 million release clause, and the midfielder underwent his physical in Germany.
The agreement is valid through 2026. Additionally, the 32-year-old is believed to have accepted gross salaries of about €9 million a year, which represents a significant salary cut from what he was previously paid at the Etihad Stadium.
The German is expected to be an outstanding addition to Barcelona given the calibre of performance he demonstrated this past season. More so since he can play as a pivot or in the central midfield position and because his wealth of experience can benefit young players like Pedri and Gavi.
