Leicester City have accepted £40m and £5m add-ons for the 26-year-old playmaker

Tottenham Hotspur are closing in on a potential move for Leicester City's James Maddison. According to sources, both clubs have agreed on a deal of £40 million and another £5 million as add-ons. As the move edges nearer, Maddison deleted a couple of tweets slamming Spurs and one of their legends, Gareth Bale.

In November 2012, a young James Maddison tweeted, "I hate Gareth Bale with a passion, calm down you monkey, Wilshere is 10x better than you chimpanzee."

He posted another tweet in March 2013, "Hope Luis Suarez destroys Tottenham today, don't like Spurs! Especially that monkey that everyone's on about!"'

In these two tweets, 16-year-old James Maddison showed his dislike for Tottenham Hotspur and especially Gareth Bale. He deleted these tweets before making a possible move in the coming days.

Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United had shown their interest in the English playmaker. It was reported that Leicester City were demanding £50 million for the player. The Magpies agreed terms to sign Sandro Tonali from AC Milan and cooled down their interest in Maddison. Spurs were given a clear path to sign him and they were able to lower his price.

After a few successful seasons with Leicester City, the 26-year-old has decided to stay in the Premier League. Spurs have the fear of losing their captain Harry Kane to Bayern Munich. In case this happens then new manager Ange Postecoglou will have to come up with some new plans for the coming seasons.

James Maddison has made over 150 Premier League appearances and made contributions to 75 goals. These include 43 goals and 32 assists. Last season he scored 10 goals and had nine assists in 30 appearances. Spurs will expect him to show the same form and end their search for a trophy.
