Tottenham agree £40m deal to sign James Maddison
Leicester have agreed to sell their star attacking midfielder
James Maddison, who still had just one year left remaining on his Leicester agreement, received interest from Newcastle as well, but Tottenham and the Foxes have reached an agreement to sign the attacking midfielder.
Leicester had been reluctant to sell Maddison in January, but they have now opted to cash in after being demoted to the Championship.
On Wednesday, James Maddison will undergo a physical at Tottenham as the Leicester City midfielder nears a £40 million transfer. An agreement between Tottenham and Leicester is in position, estimated to be around £40 million.
Newcastle waere also contemplating acquiring Maddison, who had just one year left on his contract with Leicester, but the team has since turned its attention to Sandro Tonali of AC Milan.
Before Ange Postecoglou's debut season in command, strengthening Tottenham's midfield options is of utmost importance.
Goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario has already been acquired by Spurs for £17.2 million this summer, and Dejan Kulusevski's loan from Juventus has been converted to a permanent transfer.
Despite Leicester's demotion, Maddison's image remains unblemished. He nevertheless produced 10 goals and 9 assists in Premier League games even during a challenging season for the team.
At the King Power Stadium, it was an extension of his exceptional body of work. He has developed into one of the tops attacking players in the middle in the Premier League throughout a span of five seasons.
The data show that he is a member of the finest. Only Trent Alexander-Arnold and Kevin De Bruyne generated greater chances in the Premier League when they joined Leicester from Norwich in 2018, whereas just Mohamed Salah, Harry Kane, and Heung Min-Son have recorded more attempts on target.
