Manchester United reach £60m agreement with Chelsea to sign Mason Mount

The 24-year-old joins the Red Devils
Massive signing from Manchester United as they finally reach an agreement with Chelsea for £60m to sign the Cobham graduate Mason Mount as per Athletic.
United decided to pay a starting price of £55 million plus $5 million in challenging add-ons despite having had a third offer of £55 million rejected last week.
Mount has been granted the go-ahead to complete personal terms and get a medical exam, and the clubs are now putting the finishing touches on the paperwork.
Another source claims that United had given Chelsea advance notice that they would not raise their improved £55 million offer as well as that they were looking at other options.
In response, the West London club made a counteroffer of £58 million plus £7 million in add-ons. But it seems like the clubs' discussions have finally resulted in a solution that benefits everyone.
Although it is not yet clear how United could activate these "difficult" add-ons, they are described as such. Mount is now free to conduct a medical exam and agree, as he has already agreed personal terms with United.
Mount's close to 20-year relationship with Chelsea, which started when he began training at the club's academy at the age of four, will come to an end once his move to Old Trafford is finalised.
However, negotiations at Stamford Bridge broke down over the 24-year-old contract extension, which sparked United's interest as the summer transfer season approached.
The Manchester Evening News reports that United manager Erik Ten Hag wants Mount to fill Christian Eriksen's position at Old Trafford.
The England midfielder had contributed to over 10 goals in the Premier League each season since earning his professional debut for Chelsea in 2019.
Consequently, he will bring a new dimension to United's midfield as Ten Hag's team looks to go further to title glory in the Premier League and Champions League in the forthcoming season.
The Dutch manager has been a big admirer of Mount and has pushed for his signing he knows what Mount brings to the table, the 24-year-old athleticism is something that will lift up United's midfield and he will certainly hope to make an excellent partnership with Bruno Fernandes in the heart of midfield.
