Nike unveils women-led football shoe Phantom Luna ahead of World Cup
This was launched after two years of research
Nike have come up with another research and recently unveiled the first-ever female-led football foot, Phantom Luna. With the Women's World Cup just around the corner, Nike are set to launch this shoe in July.
According to the brand, this is the most researched women-led boot design. One of the main reasons behind this research was to combat the sudden injuries happening in women's football.
Nike conducted this research alongside women football stars Debinha, Grace Geyoro, and Crystal Dunn. It was discovered that the female game is more concentrated towards attacking as a team and it also demands more touch passes in general.
Features
The Nike Phantom Luna is a show manufactured with larger touch zones to optimise the boot-to-ball connection. The arch heights tend to vary among women. Nike have offered different ranges that are available from flat foot to high arch.
The football shoe has high-cuff heels to deal with Achilles' irritation. These are designed to reduce the break-in time during fast-paced matches.
Nike Phantom Luna has a new circular pattern, called Nike Clycone 260. This will allow the female footballers to move with agility, precision, and safety on the pitch.
This show also has two other technologies, Nike Asym Fit and Nike Gripknit. Nike Asym Fit provides a snug fit around the ankle, based on feedback from female footballers. Nike Gripknit enhances boot-to-ball connection with optimal touch zones for control and accuracy
“Phantom Luna is a direct reflection of Nike’s focus on being her biggest champion,” says Dr. Elysia Davis, Principal Researcher in the Nike Sport Research Lab. “From research to testing to design, we put her at the centre of the process. With Phantom Luna, we’re offering a boot that is thoughtfully designed for her with a new circular stud pattern and fit, helping athletes to move with precision and confidence on the pitch.”
FIFA Women's World Cup 2023 will be played in Australia and New Zealand. The female stars will look to play for the first time using the Nike Phantom Luna. It will be interesting to see how Nike's two-year research has worked and how many injuries are prevented.
