The Magpies are expected to add more quality to their squad before the next season starts.

Newcastle United have extremely rich owners, and the club is set to flex its financial muscles in the transfer window of 2023. With the advent of the summer transfer window, there is a chance for the Premier League outfit to strengthen its squad and bolster its chances of success in the upcoming season.

Eddie Howe and Co. secured sensational UEFA Champions League qualification by finishing fourth in the 2022–23 season of the Premier League campaign. It took 20 years for the club to secure a place in the top-tier continental showpiece and needed experienced players to play among the elites.

There are several key positions that the club will look to strengthen. The summer transfer window will allow the Magpies to sign high-quality players that will elevate their squad and provide depth. On that note, here are the top five players that Newcastle United should target in the 2023 summer transfer window.

5. James Maddison - Leicester City

Leicester City’s relegation to the second division from the Premier League means that the club is set to lose several top players from their squad. The attacking midfielder has several suitors in the Premier League, including Newcastle United.

The 26-year-old had 10 goals and nine assists in 30 appearances in the league. James Maddison will cost them somewhere around €50 million.

4. Sandro Tonali - AC Milan

Sandro Tonali is one of the top targets for Newcastle United in the summer transfer window. The central midfielder had an outstanding 2022-23 season with AC Milan, helping them reach the semi-final of the UEFA Champions League. The 23-year-old has several qualities and can play as a holding midfielder or a deep-lying playmaker.

The 23-year-old played 48 games for the Italian side last season and is in his prime. A move to the Premier League excites the Italian international and he is close to completing a transfer which may cost the Magpies around €50.00 million.

3. Harry Maguire - Manchester United

Manchester United are looking to offload Harry Maguire and are in search of his replacement. The centre-back is likely to lose club captaincy to Bruno Fernandes next season after having already lost his place in the starting lineup.

Reports suggest that the Red Devils are open to offers for the centre-back. Newcastle United is one of the clubs monitoring the situation. Harry Maguire would be a great addition to the Magpies, as he has buckets of experience playing in the Premier League and European competitions.

2. Khvicha Kvaratskhelia - Napoli

Eddie Howe's team needs players with European pedigree, and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia has plenty of it. The exciting attacking winger is on the shopping list of several top European clubs after guiding Napoli to the Serie A title and a semi-final finish in the Champions League.

The 22-year-old scored 14 goals and made 17 assists in all competitions for Napoli last season. He will cost the Magpies in the region of €85.00m–€100.00m; however, he will be a huge addition to the team and send shockwaves across the Premier League.

1. Renan Lodi - Atletico Madrid

Newcastle United have a brilliant right-back in Kieran Trippier, but their left-back position can certainly have a better figure occupying it. Renan Lodi is currently contracted with Atletico Madrid but spent the last season playing for Nottingham Forest on loan in the Premier League.

He has valuable experience playing in England and will seamlessly fit into Eddie Howe's squad. His pace and fluidity down the channels will make him a brilliant addition to Eddie Howe’s team. The chance to play in the Champions League and stay in England would make it easier to agree on personal terms with the 25-year-old Brazilian international.
