Gokulam Kerala is thrilled to announce the signing of Álex Sánchez, a forward hailing from Spain. Born without a right hand, he has triumphed over numerous challenges to become the first and only footballer with a disability to play in the esteemed Spanish La Liga.
The 34-year-old forward's skills and dedication has earned him recognition and admiration within the football community. His journey to excellence includes experience gained at various clubs, such as CD Tudelano, CD Teruel, CA Osasuna Promesas, Utebo FC, CA Osasuna, and Real Zaragoza, in which he played the La Liga.
Having featured in 127 matches in Spain's Third Tier, Álex Sánchez has impressively netted 42 goals, showcasing his prowess on the field. During the last season, he contributed significantly to SD Ejea, scoring 13 goals in 33 matches.
Álex Sánchez's talent, combined with his exceptional track record, has made him an invaluable addition to GKFC. He has now signed a one-year deal with the club.
Club President VC Praveen expressed his sheer delight over Álex's arrival, stating, "We are overjoyed to welcome Álex Sánchez into our ranks. Not only is he an incredibly talented player, but he is also an inspiration to all with his embodiment of perseverance and determination. We firmly believe that his presence on the team will not only fortify our squad but also inspire and motivate footballers everywhere."
In the pre-season camp for the prestigious Durand Cup at Kozhikode, Álex Sánchez joins other foreign recruits, Spaniard midfielder Nili Perdormo, and Cameroonian defender Aminou Bouba. As the third foreigner to arrive at GKFC this season, Álex's exceptional talents and determination will further bolster the team's preparations under their new Spanish Coach, Domingo Oramas.
The Malabarians are all geared up to take on the challenges of the Durand Cup, where they will face their first match against Air Force on August 9th. Grouped alongside Kerala Blasters and Bengaluru FC in the competition, GKFC aims to showcase their prowess on the field and make their mark in the tournament before the start of the I-League.
