Under new head coach Sergio Lobera, the Mariners dominated possession but had to remain patient against a stubborn Blasters defense organized by David Català. The breakthrough arrived in the 36th minute when Dimitri Petratos slipped a pass to Jamie Maclaren inside the box. The Australian striker turned his defender and drilled a composed left-footed finish past Sachin Suresh to open the season's scoring account.
