Despite dominating possession and creating numerous chances in the first half through Nandhakumar Sekar and Miguel Ferreira, Oscar Bruzon's men went into the break level at 0-0.

The deadlock was finally broken in the 66th minute when Bipin Singh floated a delightful cross for new signing Youssef Ezzejjari [66'], who buried a perfect header into the net. Just six minutes later, Ezzejjari [72'] doubled the lead, slotting home his second of the night after brilliant build-up play involving Bipin and Edmund Lalrindika.

In stoppage time, the Brazilian magician Miguel Ferreira [90+2'] put the icing on the cake, finding the far corner with a tight finish after being set up by substitute PV Vishnu, securing East Bengal's first opening league match win in the ISL era.
