Mohammedan, East Bengal to play against Malta National Team
Malta National Team are currently ranked 172 in FIFA Rankings.
The 125th edition of the Calcutta Football League features no foreign footballers with the motto of bringing up more young footballing talents from the highest state-level football division of West Bengal. Only Indian footballers can take part in this tournament as per the new rule. For the preparation of the senior team ahead of upcoming tournaments in August-September, Mohammedan Sporting Club and East Bengal will play preparatory match against European nation Malta.
Malta National Football Association was founded in 1900 and is one of the oldest footballing governing bodies in the World. In 1959, Malta joined FIFA and hold the 172nd position in the current FIFA Rankings. Malta National Team last time faced Ukraine in the Group C of the UEFA Euro Qualifiers on 19th June 2023 under their head coach Michele Marcolini. The game ended 1-0 in favour of Ukraine.
Coached by Mehrajuddin Wadoo, the Black Panthers are currently playing in the 125th edition of the Calcutta Football League and registered a 1-0 victory over United SC at their home stadium yesterday after registering a thumping 7-0 victory over Calcutta FC in their opening match. The defending champions of the Calcutta Football League are on a two-game winning streak in this 2023 edition and hold a 100% win record along with the Mohun Bagan.
East Bengal kicked off their CFL campaign with a goalless draw against Rainbow AC. Bino George's boys were unable to quench the thirst of more than a 1000 Red & Gold spectators at Kishore Bharati Krirangan, to start the season on a winning note like the other two big clubs.
Malta National Team will fly to India to take Mohammedan Sporting Club on 1st August 2023. East Bengal will also face them on the 5th of August in a preparatory match.
