However, East Bengal's response was instantaneous and ruthless. Just three minutes later, Edmund Lalrindika [7'] pounced on a loose clearance to unleash a thunderous volley from outside the box, restoring parity. The momentum shifted entirely when Edmund was brought down inside the penalty area shortly after. Youssef Ezzejjari [11'] stepped up and calmly converted from the spot to give the hosts the lead.

Before halftime, the brilliant Miguel Figueira threaded a perfect through ball to Ezzejjari [40'], who slotted it through the goalkeeper's legs for his second of the night. Sporting Delhi fought hard in the second half but lacked the final product.
