The Mariners have made some subtle changes after dropping the 'ATK' tag.
Defending Indian Super League champions Mohun Bagan Super Giant have revealed a new logo taking inspiration from the original Mohun Bagan logo.
The RP Sanjeev Goenka Group-owned club announced officially on June 1st that the club will be called 'Mohun Bagan Super Giant' based on the lines of the conglomerate's other teams owned across sports, such as Lucknow Super Giants, Durban's Super Giants.
A small new addition is the colours and arrow shape of the RP Sanjiv Goenka Group logo to the existing logo between the text.
Change of name after ISL win
The club had announced on the day of their ISL finals win about changing the name to match with the Super Giant theme. The Mariners defeated Bengaluru FC on penalties, as the clubs remain locked 2-2 after regulation time and extra time.
Dimitri Petratos emerged as the star, scoring two penalties in regulation time, the second being the vital one which pulled them level and brought about extra time in the decider. The Australian also went on to bury his penalty during the shootout.
Official change of name and the club's ambitions
The decision to shed the ATK name from the football club came from incessant demand from the fans, who had strongly voiced for the removal since the merger between ATK and Mohun Bagan. The ATK prefix stems from Atletico de Kolkata's technical partnership with Atletico de Madrid.
The Goenka (RPSG) group initially acquired a 25% stake in ATK, before the merger in June 2020 gave a majority 80% stake to RPSG Group which brought the 'Mohun Bagan' name and legacy to the ISL.
Ahead of the 2023-24 football season, the club have announced their intentions to maintain a stranglehold not only in India, but in Asia as well. They will play in the AFC Cup, after defeating Hyderabad FC in the playoff match.
The statement signings include A-League star Jason Cummings, Albanian hero Armando Sadiku, former Chennaiyin FC captain Anirudh Thapa, and the ever-improving centre back Anwar Ali. They are not done yet and are still chasing after national team stars and wonderkids who show massive potential.
