Boca Juniors lift their first ever Copa Libertadores U-20 title; defeat Independiente del Valle in 2023 final

The Argentinian side defeated Independiente del Valle in the final

Boca Juniors defeated Independiente del Valle by a margin of 2-0 in the final of the Copa Libertadores U-20 2023 to win their first U-20 Copa Libertadores title.

I.B Rodriguez of Boca Juniors scored both the goals, he opened the scoring in the 44th minute when he converted a deep cross from near the left corner flag into a header, smashing it into the upper right corner of the goalpost.

He once again made the scoring charts, when he caught hold of a weak clearance by an Independiente defender, and smashed the ball right into the center of the goal.

The game was evenly poised throughout much of its entirety. With possession of the ball almost equal for both teams. Independiente created some chances, including one in the first half of the game when a powerful shot from inside the box was blocked by Boca Junior’s goalkeeper Diaz robles, who was kept busy as Independietne took 9 shots at the goal out of which 3 were on target and had to be blocked.

On the other hand, Independiente goalkeeper Pinargote Lara had a busy outing as well as Boca juniors took 7 shots on goal out of which 6 were on target, he managed to block 4 of them, while the other 2 sneaked through.

Both the teams had a good run up to the finals. Independiente won all 3 of their league games in which they only conceded one goal. In the league stage, they defeated Bolivian club Always Ready by a margin of 0-6.

They faced Paraguayan team Cerro Pento in the semifinals by 1-0.

On the other hand, Boca Juniors won 2 out of their 3 league games, with one draw against Palmeiras. They defeated defending champions Penarol in the semis to make it to the finals.

Established in 2011 as a response to increased youth interest in football, this was the 13th edition of the U-20 Copa Libertadores.

Santiago Diaz of Penarol and Maelo Renteria of Independiente de Valle were tied for the top goal scorers of the tournament spot, with 4 goals a piece.
