Chelsea joins other Premier League clubs in race to sign Harry Maguire

The English centre-half has been stripped of captaincy

After last season's decline in importance under Erik ten Hag, Maguire was determined to fight for his place at Old Trafford.

Before the start of the upcoming Premier League season, Ten Hag has nonetheless removed Maguire from his position as United's captain.

The Sun reports that after his discussion with Ten Hag on Sunday, where he informed the 30-year-old that his position was no more the United captain of the team, Maguire is "angry, surprised and upset."

According to the source, Harry Maguire is prepared to leave United this summer, and Chelsea, West Ham, Tottenham, and Newcastle United are just some of the clubs who are intrigued.

The £85 million purchase, who through his social media message did not identify Ten Hag, wrote: “After discussions with the manager today he has informed me he is changing captain.

“He outlined his reasons to me and whilst I’m personally extremely disappointed, I will continue to give my all every time I wear the shirt.

“So I wanted to say a massive thank you to the Manchester United fans for all their brilliant support whilst I’ve been wearing the armband."

“Since the day I took on the role, three and a half years ago, it’s been a huge privilege to lead Manchester United and one of the proudest moments of my career to date. It’s one of the greatest honours in club football.
