David Beckham photographed watching Lionel Messi’s first training session with Inter Miami
The Argentine forward will soon make his MLS debut
In preparation for hosting football legend Lionel Messi, David Beckham attended Inter Miami's practice on Wednesday.
The seven-time Ballon d'Or winner has joined the Miami team, and the World Cup winner will eventually be introduced as a Miami player on Sunday. This is a tremendous coup for the Miami co-owner.
After declining the expensive option of moving to Saudi Arabia and realising that returning to Barcelona was no longer viable, Messi announced his intention to join the squad last month.
The idea of the superstar blazing up the soccer world in a few weeks had MLS supporters salivating when the Argentine arrived in Miami on Tuesday.
And on Wednesday, David Beckham, who in 2007 transferred to the Los Angeles Galaxy and helped change American football, was spotted at Tata Martino's practice.
The former Manchester United and England player observed as Messi's prospective teammates were tested. Additionally, he could not resist juggling a ball while sprinkling a few passes across the slippery surface.
Lionel Messi is anticipated to agree to a two-and-a-half-year contract with Miami, which is supposed to contain an option for an additional season.
Messi will receive between $50 million and $60 million annually, according to Beckham's Miami co-founder Jorge Mas, with funding coming from Apple TV, which has MLS membership rights, and Adidas through sales of Miami shirts.
The 36-year-old, his wife Antonela, and their three sons had been on holiday in the Caribbean.
On Tuesday afternoon, Miami fans congregated outdoors at the club's DRV PNK Stadium to celebrate the historic move, and the family was photographed there.
Lionel Messi will be formally introduced by Miami on Sunday night, and it is anticipated that he will be making his League Cup debut against Cruz Azul on Thursday, July 21.
