When it comes to making bold statements in the transfer market, Tottenham Hotspur have left no stone unturned. The club's rich history is dotted with significant financial investments in acquiring top talent, exemplified by their record-breaking signings.

Tottenham Hotspur have become one of the Premier League's big six over the past decade or so. It is possible thanks to the decision made my board, they have spent keeping in mind the club's philosophy and history suggests that they don't shy away from making moves in the transfer windows.

In this list, we explore the top 10 costliest transfers in Tottenham Hotspur's history, highlighting the club's willingness to spend big in pursuit of success:

10. Steven Bergwijn- €30M

Steven Bergwijn before coming to Tottenham had a reputation of changing games with his abilities. He arrived in the Premier League from the Dutch club PSV in January 2020. He signed a five-year deal with the London club, he has been involved in some late winners and scored his first goal in the 2-0 win against Manchester City. 9. Dejan Kulusevski- €30M

Kulusevski joined the Premier League side from the Serie A club Juventus on 18 month loan in January last year with an option to buy. His display on the right-wing was impressive in the 2022-23 season. So, Tottenham chose to buy the Swedish winger from Juventus and so did they, they signed him on a five year deal which will run till 2028.

8. Giovani Lo Celso- €32M

Lo Celso was another player who was bought in on a season-long loan with an option to buy, he was signed from the Spanish club Real Betis in 2019, he made his debut in for the club in 2020. But, he struggled to adapt to life in London and was sent on loan to Villareal after playing two decent years at the club. Interestingly, there are reports linking Lo Celso with a potential reunion with his former coach, Unai Emery, who is currently managing Aston Villa.

7. Moussa Sissoko- €35M

The France international was acquired from Newcastle in 2016, he made 202 appearances for the London club across all competitions. He was the key member of the squad that went on to the 2018-19 Champions League, they completed a historic comeback in the semi-finals against Ajax before losing the final to Liverpool. He spent five years at the club before he joined Watford in 2021, the side that got relegated from the Premier League in 2021-22 season.

6. Davinson Sanchez- €42M

Davinson Sanchez's signing was completed in 2017 from Ajax, the Colombian center-back was the club's record signing before Ndombele was signed in 2019. The Colombian defender has been a towering presence for Spurs ever since, coming up with impressive performances this season also, Tottenham and Sanchez agreed a new deal that will keep him at the club until 2024.

5. Pedro Porro- €45M

The Spaniard was currently on loan at Tottenham Hotspur from Sporting and will soon be a permanent addition at the north London club. The Spaniard made the move in January on loan to Spurs and has already had four different managers at the club since arriving from the Portuguese side. Being a right-back he scored 3 goals and provided 3 assists in the 2022-23 season and will strengthen Postecoglou's squad the upcoming season.

4. James Maddison- €46.3M

After Leicester's relegation in 2022-23 season, it was sure that some of the players will leave the squad and try to find new clubs for them. James Maddison was one of the players, Maddison was a target for Newcastle but Spurs beat their rivals and signed him until 2028. The attacking midfielder has a lot of potential, he is Spurs's second new transfer of the summer window so far following the arrival of goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario from Empoli. Maddison leaves Leicester after five seasons at the Foxes in which he scored 55 goals and provided 41 assists in 203 appearances.

3. Cristian Romero- €50M

The Argentinian center-back won the Qatar World Cup with possibly the best player in the world Lionel Messi. He spent most of his club career in Italy, he was signed from Juventus by Atlanta on loan in 2020 and was nominated the best defender in Serie A in 2020-21. He was signed by Tottenham on loan with an option to buy, his impressive 2021-22 season at Tottenham, he was signed on a permanent deal in 2022, with his contract lasting until 2027.

Richarlison was a part of the Everton squad till 2022, he had very successful five years where he was able to score and assist in atleast 10 goals. After his stint at Everton, he was signed by Tottenham in 2022, making him the second-most expensive transfer in the history of the club. With blistering pace and creativity on the ball, Richarlison is already proving to be a great investment by Spurs. He scored a brace in his Champions League debut against Marseille.

1. Tanguy Ndombele- €62M

Ndombele arrived in North London from Lyon in 2019, he became the club's most expensive signing in history. He never looked at ease in the England capital, the midfielder left Tottenham to return to Lyon on loan in 2022, and he was loaned to Napoli in 2023. Ndombele will return to the club as Serie A winner, having played in almost every game for Napoli, mostly from the bench. Plenty of people would love to see a Tanguy Ndombele renaissance at Spurs.
