The increasing popularity and investment in women's football has taken women's football to different heights. It is expected that the FIFA Women's World Cup 2023 will have thrilling matches and standout performances, with players demonstrating their passion for the sport and the desire to bring glory to their respective nations.

The tournament will undoubtedly be a celebration of women's football and an opportunity to witness the growth and talent in the women's game. The Women’s World Cup began on July 20, with co-hosts New Zealand playing Norway in the opening match.

10. Marta- Brazil- €80k

If ever there was a general consensus for a player that global fans want to see lift the World Cup trophy, Marta may very well be that. A true veteran of the game, her longevity in the sport is remarkable and her legacy will be forever written in the history of the sport.

She is set to play in her sixth World Cup, the six-time winner of the FIFA World Player of the Year award has the record for the most goals in World Cup tournaments – men’s or women’s – with 17. Like Messi, Marta could also make the podium come the end of the tournament in what would be a deserved marker of her contribution to the game.

Born in 1991 in Berwick-upon-Tweed close to the Scottish border, Lucy Bronze is considered one of the best footballers of the last decade and has plenty of top-level experience, she has been one of her country's most consistent and impressive performers in recent times.

During her illustrious career, the 31-year-old has won Euro 2022 with England and notched up four Champions League wins with two different teams. She has domestic league trophy in England, France and Spain.

She has twice been part of the USA squad that won back-to-back world titles, the first of which came in 2015, on the soil of historic rivals Canada, before following that up with another victory in 2019 and an Olympic gold medal. She has more than 200 caps for her country and scored 121 goals in a glittering international career that she has had.

7. Yui Hasegawa- Japan- €225k

Hasegawa is one of only two active Japanese footballers in the Barclays Women's Super League, alongside Arsenal's Mana Iwabuchi. One of the best technical players in the world and she is just starting her journey.

Hasegawa at just 26 years already has an impressive CV, she has made 65 appearances for her country while scoring 14 goals. She has won both the AFC Women's Asian Cup and Asian Games in 2018, quite frankly she has enjoyed some success with her country.

6. Khadija Shaw- Jamaica- €300k

Shaw, affectionately called “bunny” by fans – a nickname given to her by her brother plays for Manchester City. At the age of just 26, she has already become Jamaica's all-time leading goalscorer across both men's and women's football. She headed into the World Cup on the back of a historic 2022-23 campaign in which she scored 31 goals in 30 games.

Germany's 21-year-old defensive midfielder has begun the World Cup as one of the most impressive female footballers in the world, The Guardian named her the fifth-best player in the world in 2022 and she won the best young player at Euro 2022. She can play in central defense or as full-back, incredibly useful for the talented German team.

4. Asisat Oshoala- Nigeria- €350k

The 28-year-old Barcelona forward became the first ever African player to win the Women’s Champions League in 2021, only to go and win it again two seasons later. She is the gem of women's football, she is also a five-time African player of the year and the first African woman to be nominated for the Ballon d’Or Féminin. Nigeria will face Ireland, the co hosts Australia and Canada in their group stages.

3. Ada Hegerberg- Norway- €450k

Hegerberg, the 28-year-old Norwegian is one of the world's best strikers. She became the inaugural female Ballon d'Or winner in 2018 and has an incredible trophy cabinet- she has won eight league titles and six Champions Leagues at Lyon and is Norway's leading hope this summer. As the all-time UEFA Champions League’s top goal scorer, her return will be a huge boost to the tournament and the fans from Norway.

To put it simply, it does not get much bigger than playing at the World Cup on home soil and Kerr will definitely look to make the most of this opportunity. Time and time again, Kerr has proved the difference maker for both club and country, helping Chelsea to a domestic double in the 2022-23 campaign.

Kerr boasts a prolific international goal-scoring record with more than 60 goals, she finished top-scorer at the 2022 AFC Women’s Asian Cup in India, bagging seven goals in only four matches and scored five at the 2019 World Cup, including four goals in a single game against Jamaica.

In September, Putellas had protested against Spain coach Jorge Vilda’s handling of the team along with several other players who threatened to leave the team. However, she was included in the squad for the 2023 World Cup.

At the age of 29, she has already won the UEFA Women's Champions League, LaLiga, Copa de la Reina, and the Spanish Supercopa with her club Barcelona. She’s also individually collected two Ballon D’Ors, multiple Player of the Year, and two FIFA Best awards, she is arguably the best player at the World Cup.
