The team finished as the runners-up in 2019

Shanice van de Sanden of Liverpool was not selected for the FIFA Women's World Cup 2023 roster by the Netherlands. Van de Sanden, who endured an injury-ridden season, featured in only 14 games for Liverpool this season and produced one goal. The Netherlands Women have announced their team for the upcoming tournament in Australia and New Zealand.

The 30-year-old sustained the injury during the postponed game at Kingsmeadow against Chelsea and missed two months of action.

Kerstin Casparij of Manchester City, Victoria Pelova of Arsenal, and Katja Snoeijs of Everton have been included in the Dutch squad.

Alongside ADO Den Haag goalkeeper Barbara Lorsheyd, Van de Sanden continues to make the trip to Australia and New Zealand.

For medical emergencies, teams have 24 hours until their scheduled game to substitute for players in the 23-player squad.

Wieke Kaptein, 17, of FC Twente, has been selected and, should she play, will make Dutch World Cup history as the nation's youngest-ever starter.

On July 23, the Netherlands will take on Portugal to open their World Cup quest. Following that, they'll play their Group E opponents, Vietnam, the holders of the title, and the Americans.
