Newcastle United expected to break their club record for Khvicha Kvaratskhelia as £82m bid is rejected
Following Champions League qualification Newcastle hoping to make competitive team
Newcastle United are hoping to break their transfer record as they table an £82m offer for Napoli star Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.
When Napoli won the Serie A for the first time since 1990, the 22-year-old Georgian was one of the team's standout players. Due to his performances, the winger has drawn interest from all over Europe.
Newcastle have reportedly made an initial offer of £82 million to sign Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, according to the Italian publication Corriere dello Sport.
The defending Italian champions, Napoli, have apparently yet to give thought to the Magpies' offer since they intend to keep the Georgian in the team for the upcoming campaign.
Kvaratskhelia joined Napoli this past summer from Dinamo Batumi on an accord lasting through 2027, and he still has four years left on his current deal.
Key defender Kim Min-Jae of Napoli is already anticipated to be sold to Bayern Munich for £43 million, while star striker Victor Osimhen is reputedly valued at £170 million by club owner Aurelio De Laurentiis.
Khvicha Kvaratskhelia's impressive debut season
After Kvaratskhelia's impressive debut season, the Italian team will be eager to keep the winger. Kvaratskhelia made 43 games for Napoli last season, scoring 14 goals and dishing out 17 assists.
Should Newcastle's alleged offer be accepted, the figure would eclipse the £63 million paid to Real Sociedad for Swedish forward Alexander Isak last summer.
The Magpies acquired Sandro Tonali from AC Milan for a whopping £52 million.
Leicester winger Harvey Barnes, and Newcastle, who are majority controlled by the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia, have been interested in signing him.
Barnes, who netted 13 goals for the demoted Foxes this past season, has an opening bid from the Magpies of £30 million.
Howe asserted that 'nothing is close' after Newcastle's manager acknowledged the club was subject to restrictions because of Financial Fair Play.
