The Bundesliga club want to keep their Croatian centre-back

Manchester City have not reached any agreement to sign Josko Gvardiol from RB Leipzig, confirms their Director, Max Eberl.

Philipp Hinze of Sky Germany reported on the current situation of the centre-back after an interview conducted with the Sporting Director of the club.

Max Eberl said, "There is no agreement with Manchester City. Not even close."

The 49-year-old further added, "The fact is that Manchester City would like to have him. Currently, we are still very far apart. The transfer of Szoboszlai has secured us financially. We don't need the money. We would prefer Joško to stay.“

This means that RB Leipzig have no intentions to sell him in the summer. Last season, the centre-back played against the Premier League side in the Champions League. Pep Guardiola's team seemed to be interested in the player and there were reports that an agreement has been reached between the two parties for a possible transfer.

However, it has been clarified that Josko Gvardiol is still an RB Leipzig player. After losing Nkunku and Szoboszlai in the summer, the Bundesliga side cannot afford to part ways with the young Croatian defender.

Towards the end, Eberl said, "We are not a club that blocks anything. We are transparent. But we have our ideas and want them to be implemented."

Now, everything depends on what will be Manchester City's next move. They are not short on defenders, but if someone plans to leave before the transfer window ends, then the treble winners will have to buy a replacement.

They are yet to sign a replacement for Ilkay Gundogan. Riyad Mahrez is likely to leave and Bayern Munich are closing on a Kyle Walker move. Pep will look to complete two or three signings before the season starts and make them settle into his star-studded squad.
