The list contains players from the Premier League, LaLiga and Serie A.

With the new season on the horizon and the teams already getting prepared for the pre-season friendlies, there might be a few players who will need extra time to rejuvenate and take a rest. Players are also humans who suffer minor to major injuries in a season, as they go through fatigue, strains/hamstring and incoming challenges or fouls.

However, there are a few humanoid machines who are ever-present central figures for their team. Not only do their teams depend on them but they also motivate their fellow teammates to go that extra mile. Let’s take a look at the top five players with the most games played for club and country in the 2022-23 season across Europe’s top-five leagues.

5. Luka Modric, Real Madrid

Total Minutes: 4316, Total matches: 66 (Club – 52, Country – 14)

This player has been a textbook example of an ideal midfielder, he is still the go-to player for a team where they have fresh legs like Camavinga, Valverde and Ceballos. He is maturing like the fine wine people give examples about since his move from Tottenham Hotspur.

Every year on year he has created wonders by winning Ballon d’Or at the time when Messi and Ronaldo dominated the award. He is still the first name on the sheet for Croatia and still scoring and making goals for his national side. He is the oldest player on this list and leaves many world-renowned names behind. It is an achievement to keep doing things constantly for 66 games at 37 years of age.

4. Rodri, Manchester City

Total Minutes: 5304, Total matches: 66 (Club – 56, Country – 10)

He is clearly one of the if not the most important player in the treble-winning campaign for the city. He has not only made this team stronger in the midfield despite Gundogan and De Bruyne being already established in the team now for up to 7 years. He got his moment to shine in the final against Inter with that right-foot finish from the edge of the box to get City over the line.

He has been putting in the hard work for this high-press side which Guardiola prefers to do by dominating the pitch. He is also a regular starter for Spain during the World Cup and is in the Nations League. He passes the ball roughly 90.49 times during a game with a pass completion rate of 91.38%. He also plays 1.02 key passes each game which leads to significant scoring chances.

3. Bernardo Silva, Manchester City

Total Minutes: 4463, Total matches: 67 (Club – 55, Country – 12)

The Portuguese international has created waves in the football world by being one of the hottest individuals in the transfer market, with Barcelona emerging as the favorite. City have been the busiest teams in club competition this season due to their involvement across the roster.

Along with Rodri, he is another gem of a signing who has proven that Guardiola is a genius who has an eye to bag the talent. His move from Monaco to City was seen as a 50/50 chance where either he could be the regular or the bench warmer but Silva have proved in the previous season that he is a force to reckon with.

This is mostly due to his knowledge and vision which has proven that he is as lethal of a playmaker as he is as a goal scorer. He won Nations League with Portugal and is enjoying the success of a treble with City, after contributing in almost every match for the team. He is a player that you couldn’t rest on the bench because of the dynamic he provides on the pitch.

2. Lautaro Martinez, Inter Milan

Total Minutes: 4507, Total matches: 67 (Club – 57, Country – 10)

The Argentinian had a disappointing season with Inter as they fell short in the Champions League and Serie A but in contrast, he has a World Cup medal to show for at the end of the season. He is the only forward to be involved in more than 65 games across all competitions in Europe.

He was involved in 38 goals in total which is a humongous number for an attacker making him a favorable choice for Premier League outfits. An attacker is the most prone player to get stretched off due to the runs and fatigue and challenges that they take on from defenders.

He turned up his game last season and have proven his worth as one of the most lethal attackers who is an ever-present figure for the team. No doubt he is being lured away from Italy because a player who could be involved in almost 40 goals and play 67 games a season is a dream signing for any manager.

1. Bruno Fernandes, Manchester United

Total Minutes: 6071, Total matches: 70 (Club – 59, Country – 11)

Another Portuguese international on the list and probably the most important player at Old Trafford, Fernandes outplayed every other player on the continent as being the only player to cross 6000+ minutes mark last season. He is becoming a figure at the club who can be associated with the likes of Ferdinand or Giggs in terms of his presence.

Bruno Fernandes is the force that kept United attached in an injury-struck season where they lost Martinez due to injury and Rashford struggled through the end of the season. Bruno Fernandes was involved in 34 goals for his club and country and has proved to be an irreplaceable player. Portugal had a heartbreak exit in World Cup and Nations League, but he still made 11 appearances for his countryside.

United finally ended their 7 years of drought and was in touching distance of the FA Cup. Things for Fernandes might take a good turn as Mason Mount have been signed who can manage his workload and role next season as they look to challenge for Europe as well as Premier League.
