What to expect from Nigeria at FIFA Women's World Cup 2023?

The Super Falcons make their ninth appearance

Nigeria Women are all prepared for the FIFA Women's World Cup 2023. The Super Falcons will be playing in their ninth tournament and have made an appearance in every competition.

The African team will play in Group B alongside hosts Australia, Canada and Ireland. The Super Falcons will look for their best finish in the tournament.

They have reached the knockout stage twice and in the other six tournaments, the Super Falcons were eliminated in the group stage. Their overall record in the World Cup has been quite disappointing. Nigeria have played 26 games and only won four. They have lost 19 games and drawn three.

However, these are the stats from the past World Cups. They will be high on confidence heading into the 2023 edition.

Nigeria qualified for the Women's World Cup along with Zambia, Morocco and Cameroon. These four teams reached the last four of the Women's AFCON 2022 and booked their place. The Super Falcons finished fourth in the tournament.

Randy Waldrum's team are in a tough group with Canada, Australia and Ireland. The Canadian Women and Australian Women are strong contenders to win the group. However, there is always a chance for an upset at the biggest stage.

Nigeria Women's team is a mix of a few players from some of the biggest clubs in the world. Captain Onome Ebi will play in her sixth World Cup and will be leading her side.

The Super Falcons are on a three-match winning streak heading to the World Cup. Nigeria started this run with a 1-0 win over Costa Rica Women. In their next match, the Super Falcons won 2-1 against Haiti. In their most recent friendly, they defeated the co-hosts 3-0.

Nigeria Women will face Canada Women in their opening match. The Super Falcons played a 2-2 draw against them in a friendly match in December 2022.

The Super Falcons need at least four points in the group stage to increase their chances of making it to the knockout stage.
