The 19-year-old Belgian joined Southampton last season

The 19-year-old Belgian Romeo Lavia joined Southampton from Manchester City during the start of the 2022-2023 season. Even though The Saints got relegated and will play in the championship, the Belgian was impressive enough to attract attention from other Premier League giants.

The defensive midfielder was impressive in his position and was pretty much a lone bright spot in a Southampton side which had a forgetful outing. As a result, a lot of other Premier League clubs, who have been focusing on bolstering their midfield for the upcoming season, have showed interest in Lavia.

Some of these Clubs are:

Liverpool

At the start of the 22-23 season, Liverpool were expected to have an impressive campaign, as they were runners up in both the Champions League and the Premier League. However, their campaign went totally haywire as they lost to Real Madrid in the Champions League round of 16 and finished 5th in the Premier League, missing out on a Champions League spot in the coming season.

A big reason for Liverpool’s below average campaign was the lack of creativity and variety in the midfield. After the end of the season, their thinning midfield was hit even more when players like Roberto Firmino, Naby Keita, James Milner, Fabhino and Jordan Henderson. Jurgen Klopp went on a midfield signing spree by signing players like Allison Mac Allister from Brighton and Dominik Szoboszlai . Now they look to bolster their midfield even further by adding the young defensive midfielder in their squad.

Liverpool and other teams that are interested in him not only see the quality he possesses, but also see him as an investment for the future. Rather than spending big monies on proven players, they can acquire generational talents and avoid large spending in the future.

Other teams interested in him include:

Arsenal

Arsenal almost missed out on the Premier League title this season, in the transfer window, they have already acquired Kai Havertz and are looking to add more quality to their side. And after spending a considerable amount of money, might be looking to acquire a generational talent.

Chelsea

The Blues are currently looking to bolster up their midfield as they lost two quality No.8’s from their side in Mason Mount and Kai Havertz.  Owner Tod Boehly and Manager Pochettino know that they need to build their side and add quality. Fast.

Romeo Lavia’s exploits with Southampton’s sinking ship has already earned him an offer from Liverpool worth £37 million, however it is reported that The Saints value the teenager at £50 million.

Despite the price tag, negotiations are in progress as it is believed that the Belgian is too good to play in the Championship.
