Spanish legend David Silva forced to announce retirement after suffering ACL injury in pre-season

The 37-year-old midfielder last played for Real Sociedad
David Silva, a former star for Manchester City, revealed his retirement from the sport after sustaining a serious knee injury.
The 37-year-old international from Spain stayed with City for ten years after moving there from Valencia in 2010. He played for the team more than 400 times and took home four Premier League championships.
After quitting Manchester City in 2020, Silva signed for Real Sociedad and was scheduled to begin the fourth season with the Spanish team.
He has chosen to end his career, though, after suffering an anterior cruciate ligament injury during a camp training session.
“Today is a sad day for me," Silva said. "Today it is time to say goodbye to what I have dedicated my whole life to. Today it is time to say goodbye to my colleagues, who are like family to me. I will miss you very much.
“Ches (Valencia), Armeros (Eibar), Celtinas (Celta Vigo), Citizens (Man City) and Txuri Urdines (Real Sociedad)…thank you because you have made me feel at home.”
In his 20-year football career, the attacking midfielder also played for Eibar and Celta Vigo. His 125 appearances for Spain's senior team saw him capture the 2010 World Cup and the 2008 and 2012 European Championships.
One of the best dynamic players of the contemporary period, David Silva is a quick-footed magician who stood out in a strong Spain midfield that included Xavi, Xabi Alonso, Andres Iniesta, Sergio Busquets, and Cesc Fabregas.
He made 125 appearances for Spain, contributing 32 assists and 35 goals. Additionally, the Spaniard played 436 times with the Cityzens, tallying 77 goals and 140 assists.
Silva won the FIFA World Cup, two UEFA Euros, four Premier League titles, and two FA Cups, adding to his collection of gleaming trophies.
