Hyderabad FC's transfer ban lifted by AIFF, FIFA
Hyderabad FC were handed the bans due to non-payment of players’ salaries.
The 10th edition of the Indian Super League is just around the corner with the league scheduled to begin in the third week of September. All the clubs have already begun their preparations in the form of pre-season tours and the Durand Cup.
However, things did go a little off track for the Nizams as they were handed a ban by both FIFA and AIFF, as reported earlier by Khel Now. The former champions were handed a ban by FIFA due to the non-payment of salary to Spanish midfielder Nestor Gordillo.
And things got even worse when AIFF handed them another ban for the non-payment of the salary of former India international Adil Khan.
And because of the aforementioned bans, Hyderabad FC were unable to register their new signings. However, the club has cleared all the pending dues and are now eligible to register their new players, as per TOI.
The AIFF lifted the ban on Hyderabad FC on August 21 itself, but the club wasn’t given a green light by FIFA. According to TOI, the AIFF Secretary General Shaji Prabhakaran wrote to all state associations that a “national ban on the registration of new players has been lifted from Hyderabad Football Club.”
“Please note that if the club is under a registration ban related to any other case with the AIFF/FIFA judicial bodies, such a ban will be effective until the conditions under which the ban is to be lifted are not fulfilled,” said Prabhakaran.
FIFA lifted the ban on Hyderabad FC on August 24.
“We take note from the mentioned correspondence that the Creditor (Nestor Jesus Gordillo Benitez) has received the amounts due by the respondent, the club Hyderabad FC, in accordance with the decision passed by FIFA. As a consequence, we inform you that the present proceedings are closed and hence, the registration ban imposed has been lifted,” Julien Deux, head of Judicial Bodies (Adjudicatory) at FIFA, wrote in an email to the club and the AIFF.
What’s next for Hyderabad FC?
The upliftment of the transfer ban comes in as a huge relief for Hyderabad FC as they’ll now be able to register all their new signings. The club’s latest recruits include the likes of Makan Winkle Chothe, Vignesh Dakshinamurthy, Petteri Pennanen, Joe Knowles and Jonathan Moya.
Due to the transfer ban, the club couldn’t field a strong team at the Durand Cup 2023 which led to a disappointing performance. But now that the ban is lifted, Hyderabad FC can prepare in full swing for the upcoming ISL season.
