Jamshedpur FC, Gokulam Kerala friendly abandoned due to heavy rain
Jamshedpur FC were leading 2-0 in the game.
The opening pre-season friendly between Jamshedpur FC and Gokulam Kerala was abandoned due to heavy rain at Flatlets Training Ground in Jamshedpur, but not before the Men of Steel scored two impressive goals against their South Indian opponents.
The goals were scored in the first half by new signings Alen Stevanovic and Rei Tachikawa, who impressed those in attendance at Flatlets with their sharpness and proficient finishing ability.
The match was a close-knit affair in the first half with both sides exchanging blows at either end, but it was Jamshedpur who took the lead after some lovely build up and strike from the edge of the box by Rei Tachikawa. The Japanese rifled his shot into the bottom corner and gave us a glimpse of what can be expected in the upcoming season.
Alen Stevanovic was on set piece duty for most of the match but used his finishing skills to good effect as he side-footed a ball into the bottom corner late in the first half to give JFC a 2-0 lead at half-time. The second half saw numerous changes but the weather took a turn for the worse and the match had to be abandoned around the 75th minute mark with no more goals scored in the game.
The first team is set to play 6-8 friendly games in total during pre-season with other prospective teams such as Punjab FC, NorthEast United and others set to come to Jamshedpur while the squad is slated to travel to Hyderabad to play two friendlies against Sreenidi Deccan and Bengaluru FC.
