Gurpreet says Javelin is tough, and he can throw a football instead.

A couple of days back, Bengaluru FC and Indian National Football Team first-choice goalkeeper Gurpreet Singh Sandhu was captured doing Javelin throws during his training session with the club. A video clip of Gurpreet practising Javelin was then posted on the social media account of Inspire Institute of Sport. The post addressed Sandhu as Team India’s standby Javelin contingent at the World Athletic Championship being held in Budapest.

The video clip soon captured the attention of 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games gold medalist Neeraj Chopra. The champion Javelin thrower was then seen urging Gurpreet Singh Sandhu not to be with his club in Bellary and join the Javelin team in Budapest soon. Gurpreet, too took part in this funny banter. He replied to Neeraj, saying that throwing a Javelin is tough. He added that if the champion Javelin thrower wants him to throw a ball, he can surely do that.

This banter soon went viral over the internet. Fans replied to the banter with funny texts and emojis, reflecting their love and joy.

Neeraj Chopra, the 25-year-old, became the first Asian to win the Olympic gold medal in the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games. He is currently competing in the World Athletic Championship in Budapest. He had won the silver medal at the previous World Athletic Championship, which was held in Oregon in 2022. This made him the only second Indian to win a medal in this tournament. He was awarded the Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award (the highest sporting honour in India) in 2021.

Gurpreet Singh Sandhu on the other hand, recently won the SAFF Championship with Team India earlier this year and is busy training with his club, Bengaluru FC, for the upcoming season of the Indian Super League. Sandhu was the first Indian to ever play in the UEFA Europa League when he was playing for a Norwegian club in 2016.
