Sunil Chhetri: We're going to give whatever we have

Sunil Chhetri scored the winner against Bangladesh in the Asian Games tie.
India clinched their first win at the 2023 Asian Games as Sunil Chhetri sealed the deal for the Blue Tigers with a cool and calmly composed penalty late in the game. It was a cagey affair with not many chances on either end.
But, still India somehow managed to dig deep and get what they were exactly looking for. With this win, India climbed up to the second spot in their group and now have a good chance to make it to the next round of the tournament.
After the game, India’s skipper Sunil Chhetri shared his thoughts.
Thoughts after taking the lead
India looked more vulnerable after they took the lead late in the game. When asked about how he felt after his side took the lead, Chhetri said it was frustrating and a lot of things could’ve been done better.
“It was frustrating. We could've done a lot of things better. The final passing and a little bit of moments were not up to the mark. But at the end of the day, getting three points was essential to give us a chance to go into the last game,” he asserted.
Feelings after becoming a father
The Indian skipper recently became a father to a baby boy. Speaking about his feelings on becoming a father, Chhetri said that after becoming a father he understood the real meaning of happiness.
“I haven’t known happiness and peace like I have known after becoming a father. It is the utmost point of my life. It takes so much happiness to see my wife and my kid and I really miss them.
He further added that despite everything, the Blue Tigers are going to give everything that they have.
“But, having said that, we are here to represent our country. Preparation or no preparation, everything is behind us now. We are going to give whatever we have.”
Approach to the game
India did not have much time to prepare coming into the Asian Games. Moreover, they played their last game just one day ago and did not have much time to recover. Sharing his thoughts on India’s approach to this game, Chhetri said, “It wasn’t easy and it is very same for the next game also. But, playing three games in five days is not easy. So a lot of ice baths, eat good food and be ready.”
